Senior Accountant

As the Senior Accountant, you'll be a key player on our Finance Team, reporting to the Director of Finance. We're a dynamic company specializing in building AI/ML models for private and public entities, driving innovation and efficiency. We also invest in early-stage vertical AI ventures, shaping the future of applied AI. You'll have a front-row seat to the action, maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and keeping our financial operations running smoothly. What You'll Do:

Financial Operations:

Responsible for assisting financial and accounting operations including:

Perform month-end and year-end closing procedures, including journal entries, accruals and reconciliations

Ensure timely and accurate recording of all financial transactions

Prepare or review complex account reconciliations including: Accounts receivable, Accounts payable, Cost of Goods reconciliation,  Intercompany transactions, Accounting for investments (cost, equity, consolidation methods), Work in progress, Capital asset depreciation, Bank reconciliation, and foreign exchange transactions. 

Assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of internal controls to safeguard company assets.

Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency.




Financial Analysis:

Analyze financial data to ensure accuracy and compliance with Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises.  Support as required with US GAAP for our US subsidiary.

Analyze financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.

Develop and maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures

Determination of appropriate sales tax rates, and completion of government remittances

Foreign exchange transactions, and support with future hedging opportunities




Financial Reporting:

Assist with financial data and grant financing applications and reporting

Assist with external auditors and provide audit support as required

Assist with compilation of monthly financial reporting, including budget-to-actual and financial statement variance analysis, as required

Work with various business units on projects (financial modeling / FP&A/ system implementations, efficiency initiatives) as directed

What You Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. 

• Progressing towards or completion of CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) designation or equivalent certification.

• 4-5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a similar role.  Experience in Tech industry an asset

• Sound knowledge of Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises and/or International Financial Reporting Standards

• Strong problem solving, and analytical skills.

• Systemic thinker with a keen analytical mindset who considers the broader implications of their work.

• Must be detailed oriented with strong time management skills in order to deliver on deadlines

• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel and an enterprise level accounting software

• Experience working with a fast paced scale-up environment or flexibility to manage multiple priorities (month end close, projects, adhoc requests)

• Nice to have: Experience with NetSuite, Google Suite, and Stampli
