As the importance of AI continues to grow in the corporate space, many companies are encouraging staff to tinker with the tech and some are hiring dedicated executives to lead their efforts. One of those companies is Calgary-based Benevity, which has appointed Ian Goldsmith as its chief artificial intelligence officer.
Benevity provides social impact software, including charitable donation processing, volunteer management and grant administration solutions used by several large organizations and over 400,000 nonprofits worldwide.
“Ian’s appointment marks a significant milestone in the Benevity journey to reimagine what’s possible as we pioneer responsible AI innovation,” said Chris Maloof, Benevity’s CEO, in a statement. “This focus will further help organizations create lasting value by connecting business goals with purpose outcomes. AI is central to Benevity’s core strategy and we fundamentally believe it will be transformative for the CSR industry and social impact.”
Goldsmith is a tech veteran with experience in product and data leadership. Prior to joining Benevity, he held leadership roles at companies like MeridianLink and Waycare. In his position, Goldsmith will lead the company's strategic AI deployment, which includes generative and analytic capabilities.
Other companies that have appointed AI officers include General Motors, Interpublic Group and some of the top tech companies in the world.
