Calgary-based smart podiatry company Orpyx Medical Technologies has been selected to supply technology for a $5 million clinical trial funded by the U.S. National Institutes of Health and led by the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

A news release issued Thursday said the R01-funded randomized controlled trial will enroll 400 participants to evaluate whether integrating digital foot monitoring into routine care can help reduce the incidence of diabetic foot ulcers.

Orpyx will provide the study’s digital health platform, which includes sensory insoles that capture plantar pressure, temperature and activity data, along with analytics capabilities that identify patterns of concern and a remote monitoring program.
