The City of Calgary has officially opened the $8.2 million Wave Tech Centre, with funding contributions from Prairies Economic Development Canada. As part of Calgary’s Smart Cities program, Wave Tech Centre aims to help city departments and local businesses integrate new and emerging technologies to improve residents’ lives.
The facility features tools like 3D printers that can create objects like accessibility ramps, and a virtual reality immersion room, enabling users to model existing city spaces for new projects and inspect buildings more safely. It also supports emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, quantum infrastructure and cloud computing.
Calgary’s Chief IT Officer, Jan Bradley, said in a statement that the center will serve as a “try before you buy” opportunity for users to explore and test solutions before committing to them.
