The Senior Accountant will manage journal entries, account reconciliations, monthly and annual close processes, financial statements, internal reporting, audits, tax documentation, reserves, and accounting policies. The role supports a multi-entity, regulated fintech environment and collaborates with cross-functional teams to improve processes, controls, automation, and regulatory compliance.

Leads cryptocurrency accounting operations, financial reporting, month-end close, reconciliations, audit coordination, technical accounting, and internal controls. The role develops accounting policies for digital assets, evaluates complex transactions under US GAAP, supports regulatory requirements, partners with cross-functional stakeholders, and drives process automation and scalability. It also serves as the primary accounting liaison for crypto initiatives, external auditors, and regulatory examinations.

Own the architecture and long-term direction of Alpaca’s Redpanda-based event streaming platform. Lead migration to event-driven systems, design scalable real-time client streaming, establish schema and library standards, shape authentication for streaming, partner on resilience and testing, mentor engineers, influence cross-team technical decisions, and participate in platform on-call. The role primarily uses Go and involves Kubernetes, Helm, PostgreSQL, observability, and distributed systems.

Build and own automated testing frameworks, CI/CD infrastructure, load and stress testing, and chaos engineering practices for a brokerage platform. Write primarily Go, integrate AI and LLM tooling into quality workflows, investigate application and Kubernetes failures, improve developer tooling, and mentor engineers on reliability and test coverage.

Develop and operate authentication, authorization, and identity-provider services for APIs, customer products, and internal tools. Build Go backend services, gRPC/REST APIs, shared libraries, and React/TypeScript interfaces, with occasional Java work. Own services end to end, including data modeling, deployments, monitoring, troubleshooting, integrations, testing, incident response, and on-call support.

Drive the Trading API and Alpaca Connect Marketplace roadmap, including partner onboarding, app discovery, OAuth experiences, and platform utilities. Define product strategy and requirements, analyze customer behavior and ROI, own product metrics, optimize acquisition and retention funnels, and lead go-to-market initiatives that increase adoption, trading volume, and revenue. Collaborate with engineering, design, data, marketing, sales, partnerships, and operations.

Command high-severity production incidents from declaration through mitigation, coordinating technical responders, severity decisions, escalations, stakeholder communications, regional handoffs, and post-incident follow-up. Maintain accurate incident timelines, ensure retrospectives and accountable action items, and improve response processes through automation. The role requires participation in a global 24x7 incident commander roster and familiarity with fintech and regulated API-driven platforms.

Design, implement, and maintain scalable backend systems supporting Alpaca’s financial ledger and brokerage infrastructure. Own high-visibility features from design through deployment, collaborate with finance, operations, product, and engineering stakeholders, and improve system health. Build performant, reliable, maintainable services using modern distributed systems technologies while ensuring the ledger remains a correct source of truth for account transactions, reporting, and compliance.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll design and build scalable market data systems, improve API architecture, and enhance overall system performance, contributing to Alpaca's infrastructure for trading financial assets.

Operate and improve brokerage platform reliability: on-call incident response, define SLIs/SLOs, enhance observability, deploy infrastructure via GitOps, and own PostgreSQL performance, migrations, HA/DR, and mentoring.
