Job Description:

In Group Benefits, we serve more than 5 million Canadians - plan members and their dependents - through our more than 11,000 group benefit plans across the country.  Our Clients include employees, associations, affinity groups and creditors in virtually every industry in Canada, and we're proud to be their benefits provider.

The SunSolutions Account Executive is responsible for business development, client retention and the profitable management of a portfolio of group Clients in the Calgary sales office.

This role will be accountable for new sales, relationship management, and turning advisor and Client needs into opportunities to provide solutions that help our advisors and Clients achieve their business, employment, and financial goals. Every day, Account Executives deliver on Sun Life's purpose, helping our Clients achieve lifetime financial security and live healthier lives.
 

What will you do:

  • Foster and maintain excellent Client and Advisor relationships

  • Act as the primary Sun Life contact for Clients and the Advisors assigned to those clients; responsible for the overall Client relationship with Sun Life

  • Grow the assigned portfolio on a profitable basis and provide exceptional Client support for the organization

  • Proactively manage projects, host and present to advisors and Clients on a regular and frequent basis to establish strong relationships

  • Provide resolution to issues presented by internal stakeholders, Clients, and advisors with respect to the assigned block of business

  • Execute on our vision to be recognized as the top Group Benefits provider in Alberta

What do you need to succeed:

  • Ability to build and sustain relationships with Clients and advisors

  • Strong group insurance financial management capability relating to the various funding arrangements and drivers of profitability

  • Strong Client relationship management skills, active listening, problem solving, proactive inquiry and anticipation of broader needs

  • Knowledge of group benefit plan design including flexible benefit plans, underwriting and financial management, technology and internet applications, benefit and plan taxation, communications and administration procedures, claims practices, government legislation and current developments in the benefits field

  • Ability to work in partnership with internal teams and stakeholders in a collaborative manner to deliver the best solutions to meet advisor and Client needs

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills

  • Highly motivated self-starter with good overall business knowledge

  • Superior organizational skills for managing a large client portfolio and multiple priorities

  • Excellent negotiating skills

  • Ongoing involvement in professional development and group industry events

  • Integrity, Client focus, strong leadership and the ability to work successfully in a team environment

  • Extensive experience (3 or more years) in group insurance (sales, underwriting or consulting)

  • Minimum of 3 years of proven client relationship success in the group market

  • University degree is an asset

  • Professional designation such as CEBS is an asset

  • Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle

  • Small amount of travel may be required with occasional overnight travel

  • Ability to manage a flexible work schedule

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
