The Opportunity

General Bank of Canada is looking for a permanent, fulltime Accounting Manager to join as a key contributor with the Bank’s Accounting team. Consistent with the growth trajectory of the Bank, this is an excellent opportunity for the right individual to contribute to building the Bank of the future with considerable potential for learning, growth, and advancement.

The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting operations of the Bank, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements, and the integrity of financial data. The Manager will play a key role in the establishment, maintenance, and enhancement of internal controls, procedures, and systems with a strong focus on operational excellence. This role supports the Director and Controller by delivering high-quality financial statements, maintaining robust control environments, and identifying opportunities for automation and efficiency.

Position Responsibilities

  • Ensure accuracy and timely completion of monthly and yearly financial reporting, prepared in accordance with IFRS and other applicable regulatory standards.
  • Manage the general ledger, reconciliations, and journal entries to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, processing of invoices and cash management.
  • Identify and implement process improvements across financial operations, leveraging technology and automation.
  • Support internal and external audit processes, including preparation of working papers and coordination with auditors.
  • Ensure compliance with OSFI, CRA, and other regulatory bodies.
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Collaborate with other departments (e.g., Treasury, Risk, Operations) to ensure alignment of financial data and reporting.
  • Lead or support special projects such as system implementations, process improvements and automation, or regulatory changes.
  • Working closely with the Accounting leadership team, provide daily supervision and mentorship to accounting staff, fostering professional development and a culture of accountability.

What You Bring to the Table

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
  • Minimum 7 years of accounting and financial experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of leadership experience.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS, regulatory reporting and internal controls.
  • Experience with financial systems (e.g., ERP, GL platforms) and proficiency in Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfortable with adhering to bank policies and procedures, regulatory compliance discipline.

  • Leadership experience in the banking or financial services sector.
