About The Role
As an Actuarial Analyst in our Employee Benefits Division, you will enhance your understanding of the group benefits industry. You will respond to client inquiries, provide analytical support, solve problems, and tackle new challenges daily, all under the mentorship of experienced and dedicated colleagues. Leveraging data-driven insights, you will collaborate closely with the analytical team and consultants to support strategic decision-making and help clients achieve their goals.
 

What You’ll Do

  • Provide direct day-to-day problem solving support for clients in relation to their group benefits programs

  • Support client communication through drafting of formal letters, reports, and virtual and in-person meetings

  • Perform data entry to support quarterly and annual financial analysis for a broad range of clients in a variety of industry sectors

  • Conduct renewal analysis, negotiate fees and rates with carriers – in alignment with department strategy

  • Review insurance contracts and financial statements

  • Support the lead consultant in managing projects, conducting or directing research, and drawing meaningful conclusions from client and market data

  • Gain insight and build knowledge of our organization, its services, people and purpose

  • Data review, assumption setting, and report writing for actuarial valuations (actuarial track only)

  • Analyze claims experience, trend assumptions, and plan utilization to support pricing decisions and plan design recommendations.

  • Develop cost projections and assess the financial impact of proposed plan changes.

  • Prepare and review actuarial valuation reports, including setting assumptions, assessing liabilities, and determining plan funding needs.

  • Interpret and apply regulatory requirements, ensuring compliance in all actuarial work.

  • Actively manage all assigned accounts, and represent HUB and our values in all interactions with clients including client meetings, events and presentations.

  • Handle confidential information and data – adhering to HUB’s privacy and confidentiality agreement

What You’ll Need for Success

  • Post-secondary degrees in Commerce, Mathematics, Actuarial Sciences, or Human Resources

  • Working towards your ASA is considered an asset.

  • 1-2 years of professional experience as an analyst or in a corporate setting, with employee benefits experience being a valuable asset.

  • Completion of courses related to Group Benefits (e.g. Certified Employee Benefits Specialist – CEBS, insurance license, and actuarial designation) are not required, but would be an asset

  • LLQP certification is considered an asset; candidates without it must be willing to complete it within the first year of employment.

  • Advanced Proficiency in MS Office:  Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

  • Excellent communication, project management, collaboration, and presentation skills
