Job Description

AltaGas - Business Analyst, Operations Planning & Analysis

Reporting to the Senior Director, Operations Planning and Analysis, the Business Analyst will support the efficiency and productivity of AltaGas' Midstream Operations spending. You will collaborate with the Midstream Finance, Engineering, and Operations teams to optimize business processes and aid in investment and capital planning. Key objectives include enhancing visibility and accuracy of the Midstream Maintenance Capital portfolio, maintaining a spend database, preparing documentation for expenditure authorization, tracking KPIs, and ensuring accurate cost information. Additionally, you will collaborate on G&A planning and reporting, including labor allocations, identify opportunities for process improvements and cost savings, and assess key performance metrics to enhance operational efficiency.

You will:

  • Coordinate capital portfolio governance framework through maintaining an internal database of actual and forecast spend and collaborating with Midstream Operations and Engineering teams. 
  • Analyze data from many sources (JD Edwards, Workday, and other internal sources) to create storylines. 
  • Support the Operations Planning & Analysis team with preparing, collecting, and organizing documentation. 
  • Track KPIs, prepare, and distribute reports on operating costs and G&A.  
  • Ensure accuracy in processes for communicating, evaluating, and storing operations cost information. 
  • Monitor operational performance metrics, identify trends, and provide actionable insights for continuous improvement. 
  • Assist in the implementation of an Integrated Business Planning tool at AltaGas. 

You have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Analytical, curious, and a self-starter.
  • Proficient in Excel and data analysis; proficiency in statistical and financial modeling is an asset.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills for effective cross-functional collaboration.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Understanding of operations, including rail, freight management, carrier selection, and routing optimization is an asset.
  • Experience with Midstream operations, PowerBI, and JD Edwards is an asset.
