AltaGas - Sr. Manager, Development Engineering

As a Sr. Manager, Development Engineering, you’ll dive into a variety of early development initiatives that drive both business growth and cutting-edge emerging technologies including coastal developments, conventional midstream developments and carbon and emissions reduction projects.

 This role involves collaborating with various stakeholders, including project managers, engineers, and external vendors, to ensure that engineering standards, processes, and procedures are applied effectively in the development phases of a project.

You Will:

  • Technically lead initiatives through the development phases of projects, reporting up to senior leadership. These initiatives may include new projects, expansions, or facility modifications.
  • Manage and complete feasibility studies within the Project Delivery Model to better define the scope, evaluate relevant alternatives, and continually de-risk the project. This includes project scope definition, engineering design, and interfacing with third-party engineering contractors functional to a seamless handover to project execution.
  • Collaborate with teams at all levels: Operations, Facilities Engineering, Strategy & Innovation, Commercial Development, Discipline Engineering, external subject matter experts and external stakeholders.
  • Support project managers and project engineers in evaluating alternatives and driving decision on scope and broader project development.
  • Use strong analytical and critical thinking abilities to not only understand how our midstream assets operate but also to suggest methods of effectively evaluating and testing new technologies that will allow AltaGas to adapt to the evolving business environment
  • Support opportunities and support applications for government grants and funding for emission reduction programs or projects.
  • Provide training on standardized development practices and documentation to project development staff and relevant stakeholders

You Have:

  • 10 or more years of front-end project development experience and 5 or more years of project execution experience in midstream facilities.
  • Engineering degree.
  • Current registration in good standing with APEGA as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) an asset
  • Ability to effectively manage numerous concurrent and varied expectations while prioritizing internal stakeholder objectives.
  • Ability to multi-task in a varied and fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills: must be able to present findings to broad audiences inclusive of senior management, requiring the ability to explain complex technical matters in a way both technical and non-technical personnel can understand.
  • Exhibits innovation and critical thinking when developing and evaluating alternate solutions or assessing new technologies.
  • Ability to foresee potential issues or problems through strong planning and organizing skills.
  • Experience in managing and expediting project development deliverables from external stakeholders, vendors and technology providers.
  • Support partner relations where applicable with regular reporting.
  • Experience with energy transition/decarbonization technologies an asset.
  • Familiarity with current codes (ABSA, ASME, CSA, API, NACE, etc.), acts and regulations.
