Job Description

AltaGas - Sr Manager, Technical Accounting
Reporting to the Midstream, Controller, the Senior Manager, Technical Accounting will be the key contact for the technical accounting analysis of complex accounting transactions and derivatives for the Midstream business unit. This person will work closely with other departments to identify and assess accounting issues, provide direct support on the commercial activities and support the corporate function in executing the Management Discussion and Analysis, and Annual Information Form.
You Will:

  • Maintain and operate the process of identifying accounting assessments required within business transactions

  • Oversee the derivatives accounting function including financial settlements and MTM accounting assessments

  • Author and present technical accounting memoranda on complex transactions to meet strategic reporting objectives and ensure appropriate accounting treatment

  • Develop and maintain knowledge of US GAAP, including but not limited to ASC 815, 810, and 470

  • Provide advice and guidance on technical accounting matters to internal stakeholders including summaries of accounting issues

  • Build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders

  • Prepare materials and be a key contributor to the GAAP committee and Change Control meetings

  • Monitor corporate accounting policies and management reporting metrics as appropriate

  • Assist external reporting with preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements, Management Discussion and Analysis (MD&A) and other externally released financial information such as the Annual Information Form (AIF)

  • Manage projects associated with U.S. GAAP and other regulatory changes, including the implementation of new accounting standards

  • Liaise with external auditors on any complex accounting matters

  • Special projects and process improvements as required

You Have:

  • Bachelor's Degree and CPA required

  • 12+ Years of progressively senior level experience in accounting/finance required

  • Thorough knowledge of U.S. GAAP and/or IFRS

  • Prior experience in a large public accounting firm providing technical advice is a plus.

  • Enthusiastic, innovative and motivated team player with effective interpersonal and communication skills

  • Proven ability to prioritize, work under pressure with minimal guidance and meet tight deadlines
