Job Description

AltaGas - Trading & Risk Specialist

Reporting to the Senior Director, Financial Hedging & Fundamentals, the Trading and Risk Specialist is responsible for supporting commercial trading activities within the Commodity Risk Management & Fundamentals team.
As a Trading and Risk Specialist, you will use your strong analytical acumen and attention to detail to play a critical role in monitoring, analyzing, and mitigating trading and financial risks. You will be responsible for identifying, evaluating, and managing various risks associated with our trading activities, ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines, and implementing risk mitigation strategies. Your expertise will be instrumental in helping the Commercial Team make informed decisions and maintain a strong financial position.

You will:

  • Assess credit, market, liquidity, operational, and other financial risks.
  • Conduct stress tests and scenario analysis to assess the impact of adverse market conditions.
  • Balance daily and monthly positions through active trading and position monitoring
  • Monitor the Mark-to-Market of various physical and financial positions.
  • Develop expert understanding of global propane market fundaments.
  • Develop and maintain business processes and systems to ensure proper administration of executed contracts.
  • Sensitivity analysis and assist in budgeting and planning process.
  • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and policies.
  • Collaborate with trading teams to ensure adherence to risk limits and guidelines.
  • Manage risk controls, including stop-loss orders and position limits.
  • Stay current with relevant regulations and industry best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and reporting obligations. Assist in regulatory filings and examinations.
  • Utilize financial and trading data to create reports and dashboards for risk analysis.
  • Evaluate historical trading performance and identify patterns and trends.
  • Utilize quantitative models for risk assessment and forecasting.
  • Provide regular risk reports to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with trading teams to convey risk-related information.

You have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, mathematics, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in trading, risk management, marketing, or logistics.
  • Strong understanding of financial markets and trading strategies.
  • Proficiency in risk management tools and software, ETRM.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Experience in research and problem-solving.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., FRM, CFA) are a plus.
