POSITION OVERVIEW

The Associate, Syndicated Financing provides analytical, financial, client relationship management and account administration support to the Syndicated Financing team.

CHALLENGES TO BE MET  

  • Contribute to building a profitable portfolio by assisting the Directors and Associate Directors in the management of complex syndicated lending transactions, from deal sourcing through to closing and disbursements.

  • Maintain data integrity within the Syndicated Financing portfolio by ensuring all relevant information is saved in the appropriate location within the Bank's data bases.

  • Contribute to completing BDC's KYC and AML due diligence including completing online requests and searches (e.g. Equifax, Corporate Registry Searches, FINSCAN, etc.).

  • Conduct market/industry research and benchmark analysis, compile data and perform various market value analysis and financial forecasts.

  • Contribute to the preparation of written credit submissions for loan authorizations and amendments in conjunction with the other Syndicated Financing deal team members consistent with BDC's standards and procedures.

  • Ensure all quarterly and annual compliance reporting is received on time as outlined in each client's credit agreement and advise the Director or Associate Director of items that require follow-up with the Agent if required (i.e. if reporting is late or inaccurate).

  • Review compliance calculations for accuracy and submit quarterly Credit Conditions worksheet to the relevant team members in a timely manner.

  • Complete annual risk reviews within 6 months of each Borrower's fiscal year end.

  • Stay abreast of industry conditions / economic trends / risk factors related to key industries within the Syndicated Financing portfolio.

  • Design and produce regular and ad-hoc reports and dashboards.

  • Minimize BDC’s risk exposure by staying abreast of BDC guidelines, policies and procedures with respect to lending decisions.

  • Attend joint influencer and client meetings with the Directors and Associated Directors as required.

  • Assist the Directors and Associated Directors with the co-ordination of business development activities. 

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR  

  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Accounting, Economics, Finance (or equivalent).

  • Working towards or completion of a professional designation (CFA, CBV, CPA, or other relevant designation) is a plus.

  • Minimum of 1 to 3 years of accounting, finance or corporate banking experience.

  • Professional oral and written communication skills are an absolute must.

  • High level of attention to detail, accuracy and consistency in both written and financial work.

  • Ability to comprehend and analyze complex financial statements and financial models.

  • Possess a high level of curiosity and resourcefulness, and desire for continuous improvement.

  • Sound judgment in dealing with approaches to financing, processing applications and maintaining relationships with customers.

  • Must have a collaborative team-oriented mindset, while maintaining an ability to work autonomously within a team environment.

  • Well organized and be able to work under pressure while managing/balancing competing priorities and meeting critical deadlines.

  • Ability to receive constructive feedback from multiple team members in a professional manner.

  • Strong Excel, Word, PowerPoint skills and the ability to source market data/perform research.

  • Must maintain high standards of professional and ethical conduct.

  • Previous syndication experience is beneficial.

  • Bilingualism is an asset (English is a must).
