What you'll do

The Cattle Research Project Coordinator (CRPC) facilitates the smooth conduct of research studies in commercial cattle feedlot and calf grower production settings. The CRPC works closely with Research Team Management in the development and maintenance of research procedures, systems, and training tools to continually improve project implementation, data accuracy, and team productivity. Join us to work in the agricultural industry, learn about research procedures, improve data management skills, and work with a great team to support cattle well being and productivity!

  • Coordinate all aspects of research study implementation/execution (start to finish)
  • Field work (~20% of role) conducted at local commercial feedlots and calf growers throughout the year
  • Communication and coordination with client-site cattle managers to ensure smooth study implementation
  • Support studies conducted in various fields, including animal health, feeds and nutrition, performance enhancement, and marketing strategies
  • Feedlot study types include small-pen, large-pen, individual-animal, and individual feed intake monitoring designs
  • Calf grower study types include individual hutch and corral designs
  • Studies conducted primarily in Canada, the USA, and Mexico, but can be as far away as Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Brazil, etc.
  • Sample collection (e.g., nasal samples, fecal samples, feed samples), organization, and shipping
  • Access data from multiple sources and compile large Excel spreadsheets of animal health, production, and feed data 
  • Results compilation (tables, reports, slide presentations, etc.)
  • Training in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides) provided
  • Assist with technical writing (executive summaries, final reports, and manuscripts) 

What you bring 

  • A Master’s Degree in animal science, agriculture, epidemiology, or other relevant areas, with extra consideration given to those with prior skills or experience conducting research
  • Strong coordination, organization, prioritization, time-management, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent computer skills with moderate to advanced proficiency using Microsoft Office and Google Workspace applications
  • Ability to work well individually and in a team environment
  • Confidence working around live cattle

Great to have

  • Basic understanding of feedlot production or the cattle industry is an asset
  • Previous experience in coordinating projects or events
