Position Overview:
The Claims Administrator constitutes an integral part of the Canadian Claims team and is tasked with supporting the Claims Department with key administrative tasks required throughout the day-to-day operations of the department.
The primary responsibility of the Claims Department is to actively and attentively manage new claim files that are reported to Starr. Claims Examiners evaluate coverage and conduct thorough claims investigations to negotiate cost-effective, good faith claims resolutions based on the assessed exposure.
Throughout the claims process, there are numerous administrative tasks that must be performed to ensure an orderly, efficient, and compliant claims process. These administrative tasks are the responsibility of the Claims Administrator and will be performed with the objective of supporting the Claims Department accordingly. In addition to the aforementioned responsibilities, the Claims Administrator will begin to develop claims handling though active claims handling.
The ideal candidate for the Claims Administrator role will be someone that thrives in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to effectively support the Claims Department while maintaining the highest degree of attention to detail. Candidates will be required to possess strong data analytical skills to assist with the job functions required. Motivated candidates looking to initiate their career in the insurance industry while developing their claims handling skills will be preferred.
Seeking candidates from entry level (recent graduates) to experienced professionals. The expected salary for this vacant position is CAD$80,000. Artificial Intelligence will not be used to screen applicants.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The key duties and responsibilities of the Claims Administrator include, but are not limited to, the following:
Assist with the intake, setup, and documentation of new claims for various lines of business.
Review policy wordings to conduct a preliminary coverage assessment for new claim files.
Develop multi-line claims handling abilities though active claims handling.
Generate claims related reports to assist with identifying key trends for various departments, stakeholders, and regulators.
Communicate with both internal and external claims examiners, accounting team members, underwriters, insureds, and/or broker partners.
Maintain and update claims data on a regular basis to ensure data integrity.
Reconcile financial transactions for various lines of business on a regular basis, including claims payments and reimbursements.
Oversee deductible recovery to ensure efficient collection of recovery payments.
Assist with internal and external claims audits, as required.
Support the Claims Department with various administrative projects, as required.
Skills/Characteristics Required:
Interest in starting a career within the insurance industry, with a focus on claims and litigation.
Detail oriented, with the ability to effectively and efficiently review contracts, case law, new claims details, expert reports, and more.
High degree of proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel and similar applications.
Desire to perform in a support role.
Ability to multi-task and prioritize workflows efficiently.
Ability to perform defined tasks effectively without significant oversight.
Ability to meet deadlines.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
