What You’ll Be Doing

You will be responsible for providing database support related to Oracle build, migration, performance tuning and incident resolutions. You will be addressing questions from application owners and developers, working closely with various CIBC Technology groups. You will be working with Solution Design, DB Engineering, Information Security teams and external vendors. You will be providing inputs to database standards, designs, best practices and recommend changes to fit specific application requirements. You will be working with project managers to develop implementation plans, performing database upgrade and migration activities.  You will also be responsible for day-to-day operational activities for Oracle, SQL & Azure DBs, managing escalations, modify established procedures, approaches to suit specific situations including 24x7 on-call and production support.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Production Support - Investigate and define operational issues and prioritize based on severity, risk and/or strategic business needs. Manage project deliverables, code deployments, incidents and ad-hoc requests. Design and implement solutions to prevent recurrence with the end goal of ensuring clients satisfaction.

  • Partnership - Work as a regular liaison with business partners, technology partners, senior management team, internal and external clients. Ensure internal clients are well-informed of the team mandate and nature, including relevant policies and legislation changes. Promote and support the concepts, products and services of the Channel Support area.

  • Projects Delivery - Act as subject matter expert in the assessment of impacts for planned system changes and projects, ensuring compliance with relevant organization standards (Business, Continuity, Security, Compliance, and Privacy); develop and maintain productive relationships with Technology, QA, Project team and others. Research, analyze and support the development and implementation of new and/or revised policies, procedures and standards. Investigate, analyze and provide recommendations on issues and system outages.

Who You Are

  • You can demonstrate experience in at least 7 years of Oracle database administration, including setup, installation, configuration, tuning, query optimization, monitoring, troubleshooting, and backup/recovery. You have hands-on experience with MSSQL, Oracle, and Azure (IaaS, PaaS), including data migration from Oracle to Azure. You take ownership of technical resolutions for production incidents, communicate complex technical issues clearly to stakeholders, and comply with CIBC’s change control and database security policies. Your responsibilities include analyzing recurring incidents for service improvements, providing on-call support, and participating in BAU operations, scheduled disaster recovery, and root cause analysis of critical incidents, consistently demonstrating critical thinking in database maintenance and issue resolution.
