What it’s like to be a Northbridge Corporate Underwriting Specialist

As a Northbridge Corporate Underwriting Specialist, you’ll play a key role in shaping and strengthening our national small business portfolio. You’ll collaborate with regional teams, corporate process partners, and actuarial and data analytics colleagues to elevate underwriting practices, enhance rating sophistication, and deliver an exceptional small business experience across NBFC’s brands. You will monitor emerging trends, assess new business opportunities, provide technical guidance to teams, and support continuous improvement initiatives—all while helping to maintain a profitable, competitive book of business.
We want your talent
If you are great at:

  • Building strong relationships and collaborating across regions and cross‑functional teams

  • Analyzing trends, identifying risks, and spotting opportunities for growth

  • Delivering clear, thoughtful underwriting guidance and training

  • Providing exceptional customer service, problem solving, and clarity on coverage and wordings

  • Coaching and mentoring others to strengthen underwriting capability

  • Navigating change and contributing to continuous improvement

  • Managing competing priorities with sound judgement and attention to detail

If you have:

  • 5+ years of commercial underwriting experience in property and casualty insurance

  • Completed, or pursuing your CIP, FCIP, or RPLU designations

  • Strong customer service background

  • Team-first mentality

We really mean it when we say we put you first. Here are a few ways how:

  • Hybrid work! Work from the office and at home 50/50, giving you the flexibility to balance both worlds with ease.

  • Competitive compensation plus support for your financial well‑being through our employee share purchase plan, pension plans, RRSP, staff insurance discounts, and more.

  • Your well-being matters. Enjoy flexible health benefits from day one, early leave days, wellness programs, and rewards & recognition initiatives.

  • We invest in your growth. Access education assistance for CIP, FCIP, CRM and other development programs, leadership training, mentoring, and internal mobility opportunities.

  • We care about community. NBFC supports the causes you care about through donation matching and paid team volunteer days.

We’re committed to pay transparency and fairness. The base salary range for this role is $96,000 - $144,000, which reflects the expected base pay – not the total compensation package. The actual base salary may vary depending on your experience, skills, and alignment with the position. We’re also open to candidates at different levels, so if this range doesn’t quite match your expectations, don’t let that hold you back — we’d still love to hear from you.

This is a real opportunity — we’re actively hiring! If the role sounds like a good fit, we encourage you to apply. Beyond base pay, we offer a robust Total Rewards program that includes benefits, wellness support, and other meaningful perks.

We also want to be transparent about our hiring process. While one of our systems includes AI capabilities, over 99% of our screening is done by real people. We believe in thoughtful, human-centered hiring decisions, and are committed to giving every application the attention it deserves.

Fortunately, Calgary stands out as a hub for both, recognized as one of Startup Genome's Top 100 Emerging Ecosystems, while also playing host to a number of multinational enterprises.
