Job overview

At Evans Hunt, our mission is to create powerful, positive experiences that combine strategy, creative, and technology. As a Developer your role will be to contribute to the implementation of many different projects, creating new features, upgrading functionality, troubleshooting bugs and building out small projects.

Who we are looking for

Your professional or academic experience has given you the ability to work as a developer with empathy and enthusiasm to create meaningful digital experiences. You believe in a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to projects and that diverse perspectives lead to stronger work.

If the person below sounds like you, you should definitely apply.

    • You're comfortable building web projects. You have built JAM/composable web projects with something like NextJS or SvelteKit paired up with Sanity, Contentful or Strapi, and/or done work with traditional LAMP CMSes like Craft, Wordpress and SilverStripe, or dabbled with cloud platform options like Shopify/Squarespace/Webflow
    • You love the web, front and back. You'll set up fields in a CMS, write logic to talk to an API, or get creative with styling, animation and possibly even 3D work all with frameworks like Tailwind, GSAP and ThreeJS.
    • You're enthusiastic to learn new tools. You have a growing knowledge of different web development tools that can help coding such as console debuggers, module bundlers, linters, task runners and version control systems and keen to take advantage of the tools out there.
    • You have ideas and can communicate them effectively. You have a passion to figure out different development approaches to problems and can explain how you will get there to others.
    • You're eager. You're excited for the chance to contribute to new types of projects and ready to pitch in elsewhere to help the team when the opportunity arises.

    A day in the life

Working at an agency, you'll have the opportunity to work with various clients across a diverse range of industries simultaneously. One day you might be building an animation for a ski destination homepage. Another day you might fix an integration on a website to a booking engine. No day is the same.

That said, there are a few activities that will likely take up most of your time. These include:

    • Working with the project team to identify what needs doing and how to split up tasks effectively.
    • Envisioning a development solution you can bring to life to meet the requirements of a task assigned to you by the project team.
    • Setting up project code bases on your local machine from available documentation and build tools.
    • Writing and committing project code and push it up for testing and review.
    • Collaborating with QA to troubleshoot bugs to existing projects and learn more about their technologies along the way.

    What's in it for you

Evans Hunt is a full-service digital agency focused on the integration of strategy, creative, and technology. Our experienced team of 100+ employees delivers complete marketing solutions for many top local, national and international organizations. We’re a fun place that does good work. Here’s what we’re offering:

    • Culture & lifestyle: We’re an agency and we work hard, but life is also for living. We strive to provide a respectful and inclusive workplace in which all are welcome. We’re also not much for micromanaging––you’ll have a lot of flexibility to deliver great work in ways that make sense to you.
    • Office availability: Our Calgary-based office is an amenity, not a mandate, and there for you whenever you'd like.
    • Stuff: A laptop and an optional phone plan will be provided.

    Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Evans Hunt embraces and encourages the differences and characteristics that make our employees unique. The rich perspectives that result from DE&I promote innovation and business success and make us more creative, flexible, productive, and competitive. Employees can spend up to one-third of their life at work, so choosing the right company is crucial, not just for the job itself but for the company culture as well.
