THE POSITION

The Development Engineer will play a key role in evaluating, developing, and integrating new gas processing opportunities, including the construction of new facilities and the acquisition of existing assets. This role requires a strong technical background in gas processing and project management to assess feasibility, manage risk, and advance projects from concept through decision-making.

The Development Engineer will be responsible for conducting technical and economic evaluations, developing project execution strategies, and ensuring new opportunities align with business objectives. A critical aspect of this role is assessing how new assets will integrate into Keyera’s value chain, optimizing operational efficiency and long-term value. The individual will collaborate with engineering, business development, and operations teams to provide recommendations that drive strategic growth.

This role requires a detail-oriented professional with strong technical skills, the ability to manage multiple projects, and the expertise to communicate complex technical concepts to both engineering and non-technical stakeholders.

 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Technical Leadership and Strategic Influence: Lead the technical efforts of Keyera’s growth strategy by conducting high-level feasibility studies and ensuring new infrastructure investments are technically viable, economically sound, and seamlessly integrated into existing assets.

  • Asset Integration & Optimization: Assess how new assets (processing plants, pipelines, liquids extraction facilities) will fit within Keyera’s infrastructure portfolio, ensuring maximum operational efficiency, product recovery, and value realization.

  • Front-End Project Development: Drive the conceptualization of multi-million-dollar gas processing infrastructure projects, ensuring alignment with Keyera’s existing assets.

  • Engineering Oversight in Commercial Negotiations: Support the Business Development team by providing detailed engineering input during commercial discussions, ensuring proposed agreements reflect realistic technical capabilities, regulatory compliance, and optimal design standards.

  • Risk Management & Execution Strategy: Proactively identify and mitigate technical, operational, and execution risks associated with greenfield and brownfield projects, collaborating with internal stakeholders to develop risk-adjusted solutions.

  • Cross-Functional Influence: Act as the engineering liaison between Business Development, Operations, and Finance teams to ensure that technical feasibility, capital efficiency, and long-term asset value are considered in investment decisions.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in chemical, Mechanical, or Petroleum Engineering (or related field).

  • Senior-Level Experience: 15-20+ years of gas processing, midstream engineering, or project development experience, with a proven track record of delivering high-value infrastructure projects in the North American energy sector.

  • Strategic Project & Investment Insight: Expertise in assessing, developing, and optimizing capital-intensive projects, with a strong grasp of economic modeling, operational efficiencies, and capital allocation strategies.

  • Complex Problem-Solving & Decision Support: Ability to navigate complex technical and commercial challenges, providing executive-ready recommendations that align with Keyera’s risk tolerance and growth priorities.

  • Technical Authority on Midstream Infrastructure:  Deep understanding of gas processing, NGL extraction, pipeline design, compression, and facility integration and the ability to understand how incremental Gathering and Processing assets can add barrels to the front end of Keyera’s value chain.

  • Executive & Stakeholder Engagement: Experience presenting technical analyses to executive leadership, and external partners, influencing investment decisions.

  • Regulatory & Compliance Expertise: Strong knowledge of Canadian regulatory frameworks as they relate to facility expansions, new builds, and operational modifications.
