The Opportunity

Our Non-Regulated Commercial and Business Development team is looking to add an #EnergyProblemSolver in Calgary to lead our Commercial efforts on our Coastal Gas Link team.

We are seeking a Director of Commercial to join our Coastal GasLink (CGL) Commercial team. Reporting to the Vice President of Non-Regulated Commercial and Business Development, Canada Gas, in this role you will lead the team responsible for the profit and loss of the CGL asset. We will count on your leadership, expertise and ability to work collaboratively with the internal and external stakeholders, to ensure the commercial and contractual obligations for CGL are fulfilled per the contractual terms of the commercial agreement.

What you’ll do

  • Develop in-depth knowledge of the CGL commercial strategies and agreements and play a leadership role in ensuring the commercial obligations are met
  • Develop and maintain relationships with customers and the many cross functional CGL and Canada Gas teams to enhance communication between teams to achieve business outcomes
  • Stewardship of CGL contractual obligations, ensuring seamless integration, alignment, consistency, and high-quality delivery of all requirements, while influencing and guiding the support required from the CGL Project team, Canada Gas and other internal Corporate Services
  • Lead, manage and mentor direct reports by allocating work, setting performance expectations, evaluating performance and outcomes, and providing coaching
  • Responsible for the asset strategy including the operating philosophy
  • Responsible for the commercial coordination of commissioning with customers, commercial operations, operations and CGL Project team
  • Oversee the team’s financial and commercial update reporting requirements at the CGL and Canada Gas level; ensure consistency and content of information, timely submission and alignment with CGL Governance and TC Energy requirements/standards
  • Accountable to resolve all customer issues and demands, ensuring they experience excellent results and customer service while maintaining commercial commitments/obligations
  • Facilitating the interface between Commercial Operations, Operations, Engineering, Projects and other Corporate services to drive consistent and quality decision making that balances risk, cost and performance.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Relevant undergraduate degree, preferably in engineering, commerce, economics or related field of study
  • 10 or more years of progressive and relevant work experience, must include experience working in a project and commercial or business development capacity
  • Formal leadership experience and the ability to lead and coach a team of professionals with varying levels of experience
  • Demonstrated business and commercial acumen, including a strong understanding of the components of commercial agreements
  • Demonstrated commercial skills and strong ability to analyze and create effective solutions to complex issues
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to establish effective relationships with customers, internal stakeholders and cross functional teams to deliver quality customer experience and achieve business goals
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including facilitating group discussions, meetings and delivering presentations at senior leadership level
  • Self-motivated and skilled at managing ambiguity and sensitive information with limited supervision and oversight in a fast-paced, deliverable-oriented environment
  • Ability to influence and problem solve cross-functionally to identify, develop and implement solutions
