The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting our Power and Gas Trading and Origination teams in addition to assisting our broader Business Unit and corporate initiatives.

What you'll do

  • Direct the development and maintenance of proprietary models to forecast power and commodity prices, load flows, and market dynamics across North American ISOs (AESO, IESO, ERCOT, PJM, MISO, CAISO, ISONE, NYISO).

  • Oversee/lead deal structuring and valuation of complex products, including bespoke transactions, to support trading and origination strategies.

  • Oversee the monitoring of regulatory developments and the assessment of their impact on market behavior and portfolio performance.

  • Guide the delivery of actionable insights to senior leadership regarding market trends, risks, and opportunities.

  • Provide leadership and oversight in collaboration between trading, commercial, and finance teams to inform hedging strategies, capital allocation, and pricing decisions.

  • Lead the recruitment, development, and management of a team of analysts and data scientists focused on commodity analytics and risk management.

  • Establish and maintain governance frameworks for data integrity, model validation, and reporting standards.

  • Oversee the deployment and integration of analytics platforms (e.g., PLEXOS, BID3, Aurora, UPLAN) with ETRM systems.

  • Provide strategic direction in partnering with IT and data teams to implement scalable tools for real-time monitoring and scenario modeling.

  • Ensure alignment of analytics initiatives with broader business strategies by fostering close collaboration with Origination, Operations, and Risk teams.

  • Represent the company in external engagements with regulators, investors, and counterparties, providing leadership and oversight on analytics-related matters.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Economics, Finance, Engineering, Data Science, or related field.

  • 10+ years of experience in power and commodity markets, with deep expertise in market modeling and risk analytics.

  • Proven leadership in building and scaling analytics teams and systems.

  • Entrepreneurial and motivated attitude, with an ability to effectively manage multi-jurisdictional teams and complex and evolving work scopes.

  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, Tableau, and Excel; familiarity with energy trading and structured products.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex data into strategic insights.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Energy Analyst (CEA)

  • FRM or CFA designation

Fortunately, Calgary stands out as a hub for both, recognized as one of Startup Genome's Top 100 Emerging Ecosystems, while also playing host to a number of multinational enterprises. In Calgary, job seekers can find a wide range of opportunities.
