Your Opportunity
Stantec’s Energy team in western Canada is currently offering exciting opportunities for Electrical Engineers to work on a variety of HV/EHV AC and DC substation projects throughout North America. The Stations Electrical Design team is looking to fill the role of an Electrical Engineer-in-Training. Reporting to the Electrical Team Lead, the Electrical EIT will work under the supervision of a Senior Engineer to develop skills and gain experience in performing engineering design.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Perform engineering studies such as power flow, short circuit, grounding, lightning protection, insulation coordination, TRV, cable ampacity, rigid and flexible bus, lighting, etc.
- Conduct detailed design of substations, including switchyard layouts, sections, grounding plan/details, cable routing, AC/DC distribution, major equipment specifications, single line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, marking, design calculations, etc.
- Prepare technical specifications for major equipment, construction, and testing & commissioning.
- Provide technical support for procurement, construction and commissioning.
- Assist in preparing proposals, project plans and estimates.
- Coordinate with other disciplines during project execution to solve challenging technical issues.
- Follow internal QA/QC procedures to deliver high quality engineering service to clients.
- Conduct site visits to verify existing installation, define project scope, prepare for detailed design, and provide construction site supports as required.
- Drafting work may be required in order to complete deliverables.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Experience in PSSE, PSCAD, ETAP, CDEGS, WinIGS, MathCAD is an asset.
- Experience in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite, Bluebeam/Adobe Acrobat, AutoCAD and Inventor.
- Preliminary knowledge of the CEC, and industry standards such as IEEE, and CSA.
- Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Self-motivated, team-oriented, and highly organized with strong time management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to support continuous improvement and process optimization initiatives.
- Valid driver’s license.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Eligible for registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) or equivalent.
- 0–6 years of relevant experience; experience working with utilities in North America is an asset (BC Hydro experience preferred).
Office Location and Schedule
- Typical office environment working with computers.
- Stantec offers a flexible work environment (a hybrid model of working in the office and at home).
- Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
- Hybrid work model to work from home is possible.
- Location – Vancouver / Yukon / Edmonton / Calgary.
