About the company

Our client is a fast-growing software company.

The role

Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Manage a small group of engineers responsible for a major product area, balancing technical contribution with team leadership. You will drive planning and delivery, grow the team through hiring and coaching, and raise the consistency of releases.

What you'll do

- Manage and develop a small engineering team responsible for a key customer-facing product.

- Contribute directly to the codebase, evaluate technical designs and help resolve difficult engineering problems rather than delegating all of it.

- Set the roadmap and drive delivery for large initiatives spanning performance, analytics, experimentation, real-time data syncing and generative AI workflows.

- Recruit and coach talented engineers, decide which skills the team needs, design the hiring evaluation and support each person's development.

- Increase release speed and dependability during rapid growth by reducing incidents, spotting problems early and building solid incident response habits.

Requirements

What we're looking for

- Background at high-growth startups or scale-ups, and/or as a founder.

- Hands-on experience as a formal Engineering Manager with direct reports, not as a tech lead or informal mentor.

- At least 4 years in engineering, of which a minimum of 2 were spent formally managing people.

- Willingness and ability to dive into code when the team needs it.

- Based in Canada or the US and available during US time zones.

Bonus points

- A track record of steady promotions.

- A degree from a leading computer science program.
