Though we have an office based in Calgary, this is a remote position that is open to candidates across Canada.
PurposeMed's office is located on the unceded and traditional territories of the peoples of the Treaty 7 region which includes the nations of the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Îethka Stoney Nakoda which consists of the Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Good Stoney Bands, and people of the Tsuut’ina First Nation. Who we hope to find:At PurposeMed, we’re building technology that meaningfully improves access to care, and we need strong engineering leadership to help us do it well. We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to uphold engineering standards, drive operational excellence, and deliver real value to our patients, clinicians, and the business. Reporting into the CTO, you will play a crucial role in both project execution and team management. You will coach and mentor a team of developers to help scale, maintain, and guide the technical tradeoffs between systems across our software platform.
This role is ideal for someone who can elevate the team around them, keep projects unblocked and flowing smoothly, and thoughtfully navigate technical decisions of various scales and levels of complexity.
In this role, you’ll make an impact by:Leading and Mentoring a High-Performing Engineering Team
- Guiding and mentoring members of the engineering team while providing coaching in 1:1s and running effective performance reviews
- Creating a positive, diverse, and inclusive environment for your team to bring their best selves to work
- Fostering strong relationships and effective communication with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
Driving Operational Excellence Across your Pod
- Working in close collaboration with Product, Design, and Data leadership on improving ways of working within our POD/Triad model
- Leading your pod's processes, and collaborating with other teams to ensure effective collaboration and continuous improvement
- Communicating ongoing initiatives and blockers while working with team members on prioritizing tasks that ensure development teams are set up for success
Shaping Technical Strategy and Delivering High-Quality Systems
- Supporting the technical strategy and working with the team on defining and setting the product's technical direction
- Driving the team to deliver high-quality features and products efficiently, balancing speed with the need for scalable and maintainable architecture
- Creating technical diagrams and driving documentation of key technical decisions and strategy
- 5+ years of experience in Software Engineering with a focus on platform development and infrastructure
- 3+ years of engineering management experience, supporting and guiding direct reports with a genuine excitement for helping to grow people's careers
- Experience with distributed systems, cloud computing, and scaling infrastructure (e.g. GCP, Third Party System Integrations, Data Systems)
- An excellent ability to communicate complex technical ideas to both technical and non-technical stakeholders in a way suitable for the audience and situation
- Experience with decisions and tradeoffs in applying techniques ranging from rapid prototyping to multi quarter technology shifts
- Experience making effective use of AI within a development process
It would also be great if you have:
- Experience managing relationships with external vendors and account managers
- A passion for platform services and ensuring developers have the tools and infrastructure they need to deliver value
Compensation:
- $140,000 -$170,000 CAD a year
