ABOUT HELCIM

Helcim was founded with a mission at heart: to be the world’s most loved payment system. We believe that by offering small businesses in North America a decidedly human payment solution where it is easier to sign up and use while being transparent and affordable, we can empower them to grow and prosper. Simply put, helping small businesses thrive is at the very core of our business model, and we think that’s a great way to do business.

From the very start, we knew that we wanted to be different from every payment processor out there. We want the merchants we serve to feel supported and see us as a trusted partner rather than simply just another “cost of doing business.” We are relentless in our pursuit to provide a radically transparent and honest payments solution that flat out saves business owners money, all while treating them like human beings.

THE POSITION

Helcim is looking for a Fraud Specialist who can smell something fishy from a mile away. We need someone who's seen enough schemes and scams to know when something just doesn't add up. If you're the kind of person who can spot patterns in chaos and has a sixth sense for when someone's trying to pull a fast one, we want to talk to you. If you want to use your critical thinking and analytical skills to protect our customers and thwart the bad guys, this could be the job for you. If you're the kind of person who watches true crime documentaries and spots the holes in the story before the big reveal, or if you've developed a natural radar for when someone's trying to pull the wool over your eyes, we'd love to hear from you.

Here are the things you’ll own day to day:

  • Investigate Red Flags: Proactively review merchant applications and payment batches, digging into the details to understand what's truly going on with a keen eye on KYC/KYB integrity.
  • Uncover Deception: Look for the signal in the noise across transaction activity, website content, and business documentation. You'll go beyond the obvious, thinking like a fraudster to anticipate their next move.
  • Document & Escalate: Thoroughly document findings and flag high-risk activity. You will prepare internal reports and STRs/SARs when needed, ensuring strict alignment with AML/TF compliance.
  • Innovate & Enhance Systems: This isn't just about following rules; it's about improving them. You will work directly with Product and Engineering to test new ideas and improve our fraud prevention tools, utilizing Machine Learning concepts to sharpen our defenses.
  • Educate & Protect: Help merchants stay compliant and reduce their fraud exposure. You will distinguish between a malicious scheme and a new merchant making a mistake, handling both with clarity and integrity.
  • Adapt & Evolve: Continuously learn about new fraud typologies. We evolve as fast as the fraudsters do, which means staying agile and thinking creatively to stay one step ahead.

A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE HAS;

  • Experienced: You have 2+ years of experience in fraud prevention, trust & safety, AML investigations, or related risk work in a financial or fintech environment.
  • Analytical: You think in systems and patterns. You are comfortable with ambiguity and can make sound judgments even when there isn't a clear answer.
  • A Strong Communicator: You can explain complex ideas clearly (both written and verbal). You know when to send an email and when to pick up the phone to resolve a complex situation.
  • Tech-Savvy: You understand how data and Machine Learning leverage fraud detection. (Bonus points if you have proficiency with SQL, Metabase, or Python).
  • Resilient & Collaborative: You thrive in an environment of quick, direct feedback and team brainstorming. You own your mistakes, learn from them, and participate in post-mortems to strengthen the team.

Bonus Points If You Have

  • Experience with AML/TF reporting (e.g., STR/SAR).
  • Experience in credit card processing, issuing, or general banking operations.
  • Experience with chargebacks/disputes.
  • Experience reviewing ID documentation and business models for legitimacy.

Not checking every box? Please apply anyway! We know that candidates have different experiences that may make them a great fit for this position and for Helcim. We believe that diversity and having an inclusive culture is not only the right thing, but key to our long-term success. Diversity brings more experience, view-points, knowledge and insight about our future. We also want to provide an accessible interview process, so if there’s any accommodations that would make your experience more comfortable, please let us know.

HELCIM CULTURE IS;

Being builders: We build things ourselves and we build them well. We use technology and our creativity to overcome challenges that would seem beyond the capability of a company our size. We improve what is already there, invent our way out of problems and we never stop dreaming of better.

Choosing the harder path: We believe that the right decisions are usually the harder ones, so we embrace the challenge and endure when others quit. We choose what is difficult because it is more rewarding in the long-term, and makes us resilient, so that we not only survive but thrive.

Creating trust: We earn trust by striving to be our best selves every day and by lifting those around us. We recognize that trust is hard to earn, easy to lose and is tested continuously over time, so we make trust our way of life.

Contributing to a company of many: We are stronger because of our collective passion, diversity, and fellowship. We believe only great teams can accomplish great things, and we ask the very best of each other. Together we create our own future.
