About this opportunity:
The Government Affairs Advisor supports the organization’s government relations efforts through policy monitoring, analysis, and strategic advice. This role is responsible for developing policy recommendations, drafting briefing materials, presentations, and communications, and providing political context and interpretation to internal business units.
Working closely with internal stakeholders across functions such as Tax, Regulatory, and Supply, the Advisor helps ensure teams are informed of relevant policy developments and their potential impacts. The role also involves engagement with external parties, including industry associations and other stakeholders, to support coordinated advocacy and information sharing.
Based in Calgary, the position has a national focus and operates with a high degree of independence, influencing decision-making through analysis, insight, and clear communication rather than formal authority or budget accountability. Success is measured through the quality and timeliness of policy analysis, completion of assigned projects, and the effectiveness of materials produced.
What you’ll do
Monitor and synthesize legislative, regulatory, and policy developments across federal, provincial, and municipal governments, identifying key issues and business impacts.
Provide policy context, background research, and political insight to support government relations activities and internal business units.
Contribute to policy analysis by gathering and validating information, drawing on internal expertise, and supporting work related to fiscal, tax, royalty, and economic considerations.
Draft, edit, proofread, and format policy briefings, presentations, summaries, and internal updates for diverse audiences.
Develop and coordinate background materials and meeting support for stakeholder engagements, while assisting with organization, scheduling, and shared resources.
Build subject-matter knowledge in assigned policy areas, including oil and gas policy, and progressively serve as a trusted internal resource for research and summaries.
Who you are:
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
Post-secondary degree in public policy, business, political science, law, or a related field is required.
7+ years’ experience gained in government relations, public affairs, or policy roles, supporting strategic initiatives.
Experience analyzing legislation, regulations, or policy and summarizing impacts for business teams. Specific experience in tax policy would be preferred.
Proven track record preparing briefings, presentations, and materials for internal and external stakeholders.
Experience engaging with government, agencies, or industry stakeholders to support organizational objectives.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
We acknowledge the value of transferable skills and may consider equivalent combinations of experience and education should you not meet a specific requirement.
Note: The application deadline for this position is 11:59 PM MT February 12, 2026.
