An overview of this role 

As the Group Manager, Product (GMP) you will be responsible for leading our product groups within the Foundations stage, which is at the core of the GitLab platform. You will oversee teams focused on Personal Productivity, Design System, Navigation, and UX Paper Cuts, ensuring GitLab delivers a world-class DevSecOps experience. Your teams will shape how users first experience and navigate GitLab, from initial onboarding through their daily workflows. You will work with product managers to refine the long-term vision and direction for GitLab's foundational features, while collaborating across stages to enable a frictionless user experience.

This is a high-impact role as the Foundations stage defines the core user experience and drives adoption across GitLab's entire platform. This role reports to the VP of Product Management.

  • Personal productivity features and workflows
  • Design system (Pajamas) adoption
  • Settings and configuration interfaces
  • Dark mode and accessibility improvements

What you'll do

  • Drive adoption of GitLab through intuitive, user-centered experiences
  • Make sure you have a great product team (recruit and hire, sense of progress, promote proactively, identify underperformance)
  • Work on the vision with the Product Leadership including VP of Product, Chief Product Officer and CEO; and communicate this vision internally and externally
  • Distill the overall vision into a compelling roadmap that aligns with our 3-year strategy
  • Lead initiatives to improve System Usability Score (SUS) and reduce cognitive load on users
  • Define and improve key user journeys, focusing on first-time user experience
  • Drive personalization and productivity improvements across the platform
  • Communicate our vision through customer conversations, demos, blogging, and interviews
  • Work closely with your stable counterparts in R&D including Engineering, UX and Quality along with stakeholders across Go to Market (Marketing, Sales, etc)

What you'll bring

  • Experience leading a team of Product Managers
  • Experience as a Product Manager with recognized achievements during your tenure as an IC
  • Experience hiring teams in high-growth companies
  • Strong understanding of enterprise customer needs, particularly around user experience and adoption
  • Experience with homepage design, navigation systems, and user onboarding
  • Technical background with understanding of enterprise software UX best practices
  • Experience with design systems and accessibility standards
  • Strong ability to work across multiple product areas and coordinate complex initiatives
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally

About the team You will be leading a geographically distributed team of Product Managers while working closely with Engineering and UX Manager counterparts. The Foundations stage is uniquely positioned to shape how users experience and adopt GitLab, making this role critical for driving user satisfaction and platform adoption.

Remote-Global

The base salary range for this role’s listed level is currently for residents of listed locations only. Grade level and salary ranges are determined through interviews and a review of education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant, equity with other team members, and alignment with market data. See more information on our benefits and equity. Sales roles are also eligible for incentive pay targeted at up to 100% of the offered base salary.

$145,600$312,000 USD
