Reporting to the Team Lead, Hardware, the Hardware Engineering Intern will work within the Product Engineering group to design, test, troubleshoot, and optimize hardware systems for Blackline’s next-generation safety devices. The successful candidate will gain hands-on experience in product development while contributing to innovative solutions that make a tangible impact.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the design, analysis, and testing of hardware systems, equipment, and packaging for wearable safety technology
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to root-cause hardware issues and refine product performance
- Support Design for Quality (DFQ) initiatives, including design reviews and failure mode analysis
- Contribute to new projects through schematic capture and PCB layout using Altium Designer while adhering to industry standards (e.g., IEC, UL, IPC)
- Document design processes, test results, and technical specifications for internal stakeholders
Skills/Qualifications/Education:
- Currently enrolled in an Electrical, Electronic, Mechatronics, or related Engineering Program
- Foundational knowledge of analog and digital circuit design
- Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout tools (e.g., Altium Designer, KiCAD, Eagle)
- Knowledge of hardware test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, multimeters, signal generators)
- Competent with prototyping equipment (e.g., soldering irons, 3D printers, etc.)
- Experience reading and interpreting technical documentation, such as datasheets, schematics, and block diagrams
- Proficiency with scripting languages such as Python/C# for use in data processing
- Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical teams
- A problem-solving mindset with an innate drive to learn new skills and expand technical expertise
Nice to Have:
- Exposure to signal integrity principles, power electronics, and/or RF fundamentals
- Awareness of EMI/EMC concepts and safety/industry standards (e.g., IEC, UL)
- Demonstration of personal or academic projects in IoT, robotics, or hardware design
- Exposure to embedded programming/firmware architecture concepts (C/C++)
