Copy.ai is a fully remote company. All employees must be able to work 9am-5pm in their timezone, Pacific to Eastern.


As the Head of Data Science you will own all aspects of Data Science including Statistical Science, Data Analytics, Data Management, and Data Science Business Operations. As the subject matter expert, you will provide key statistical expertise in keeping with cutting-edge methodologies to inform decision-making across the org. You will ensure systems, capabilities, and resources are established to optimize the acquisition, analysis, and interpretation of data. You will craft the overall technical vision and execution for all data science and machine learning initiatives across the entire Copy.ai org. You will lead a team of data scientists and prompt engineers, and work directly in partnership with product managers and engineering leaders to empower them with data-driven insights and solutions. You, along with the data science team, will dig into the data to uncover new insights, identify opportunities and actions for product improvements and new product development, determine product metrics with goals, design experiments, and promote customer experience, and engagement.

What you'll do:

  • Work with large, complex data sets. Solve difficult, non-routine analysis problems, applying advanced analytical methods as needed. Conduct analysis that includes data gathering and requirements specification, processing, analysis, ongoing deliverables, and presentations.
  • Lead and scale a high performing team of data scientists and prompt engineers
  • Build and prototype analysis pipelines for the team to provide insights at scale
  • Develop comprehensive knowledge of data structures and metrics, advocating for changes where needed for product development
  • Partner closely with engineering and product teams to deliver on major cross-functional measurements, testing, and modeling efforts

About you:

  • 7+ Years of experience in data science or machine learning
  • 3+ years of experience leading a data science or machine learning team owning a player-coach relationship
  • M.S. or PhD in data science, machine learning, statistics, mathematics, or a similar field
  • Experience with large data sets and analytical tools
  • Experience building data science models (Regression, Decision Trees, K-Means, etc.)
  • Demonstrated leadership and self-direction. Willingness to both teach others and learn new techniques.
  • Demonstrated skills in selecting the right statistical tools given a data analysis problem.
  • Proactive, organized problem-solver with the ability to execute at both the strategic and tactical level
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Based in the San Francisco Bay Area
