With a team of approximately 50 professionals in Kelowna, BC, the firm has built a strong reputation for delivering thoughtful legal solutions while fostering a supportive and people-first workplace. 

They are seeking an experienced and collaborative HR Manager to lead and support all aspects of the human resources function across the firm. Reporting to the Management Committee and Finance, this role will play an integral part in shaping the employee experience, supporting firm leadership, and helping drive a positive, high-performing, and engaged workplace culture. As the firm’s first dedicated HR professional, you will have the unique opportunity to design and implement the foundational programs, processes, and systems that will shape the employee experience at Doak Shirreff for years to come.

Additional Responsibilities Include: 

  • Managing and maintaining HR policies, procedures, employment agreements, employee handbooks, and HR records while ensuring compliance with applicable employment legislation and HR best practices. 
  • Leading the implementation, administration, and continuous improvement of HR systems and processes. 
  • Managing full-cycle recruitment and onboarding activities to support an exceptional candidate and employee experience. 
  • Providing guidance and support to leaders and employees on employee relations matters, workplace concerns, performance management, and conflict resolution. 
  • Overseeing compensation and benefits administration, including market benchmarking, salary reviews, and benefit programs. 
  • Supporting employee engagement initiatives, organizational culture development, and people-focused programs. 
  • Coordinating workplace health and safety initiatives, disability management, return-to-work programs, and related reporting requirements. 
  • Collaborating with payroll and finance teams to ensure accurate and timely processing of employment-related changes. 
  • Monitoring HR trends, identifying opportunities for improvement, and providing recommendations to leadership. 
  • Developing and facilitating employee training and professional development initiatives. 


Requirements
  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. 
  • CPHR designation, or working toward completion, is considered an asset. 
  • Several years of progressive HR experience, ideally in a professional services or legal environment. 
  • Strong knowledge of employment legislation, HR best practices, and employee relations principles. 
  • Experience supporting recruitment, performance management, employee engagement, and workplace investigations. 
  • Proven ability to build trusted relationships and work collaboratively with leaders and employees at all levels. 
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills with a high level of professionalism and discretion. 
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution in a fast-paced environment. 
  • High attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to manage confidential information with integrity. 
  • Proficiency with HRIS systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and general HR reporting and administration.

The position offers competitive total compensation of $85,000–$115,000, dependent on experience, along with comprehensive benefits, including an Employee Assistance Program.
