Under broad supervision, provides HR support to business unit or corporate functional area which may include recruiting, selection, and staffing, employment and personnel documentation, job evaluation, compensation, and benefits. Acts as a liaison between departments/Companys, all levels of line and staff management, compensation and benefits department, legal counsel, and outside service providers. Role typically requires between 3 and 5 years of experience.

On Site- HR Manager Role

Reporting to the Edmonton Plant Manager with a dotted line to the Repair Business Unit (RBU) Human Resources Director, the Human Resources Manager provides professional and responsive HR support to the Edmonton team through expertise in payroll, full-cycle recruiting, attendance management, employee relations, performance management, and labour relations. Our Edmonton repair facility operates a three-shift operation, respectively, at this time, and response to members of all shifts will be required by the Human Resources Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Champion local HR process improvement and Corporate HR initiatives
  • Assist in identifying current and future manpower needs; develop and execute hiring strategy to achieve those needs
  • Manage local recruitment, on-boarding and exit processes
  • Administer attendance management
  • Process hourly and salaried payroll at their respective intervals
  • Respond to employees’ inquiries and concerns
  • Manage hourly team member performance and maintain disciplinary records
  • Advance workplace morale, vision, and purpose
  • Participate in health and safety committee
  • Respond to urgent matters that could occur outside of business hours
  • Other related duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role, preferably within a unionized, industrial environment
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience with hourly and salaried payroll
  • Experience with Workday
  • Experience with ADP’s Workforce Now
  • Ability to work autonomously through full-cycle recruitment process
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational capabilities and conflict management skills
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure and manage competing priorities
  • Advanced skills in Word, Excel, Outlook

Pay Range: $80000-$97000

Preferred Qualifications:

  • HR designation is an asset
  • Familiarity with the rail industry is an asset
