Job Summary
ConocoPhillips Canada is seeking Senior Industrial Controls Systems and Telecommunications Specialist to provide telecommunications support for Industrial Controls Systems environments. This role works as part of a fully integrated team alongside Automation Engineering, Field Automation, and ICS OT Specialists, supporting Operations, Maintenance, Engineering and Capital Projects.Position Overview
The Senior ICS TCom Specialist provides technical leadership and subject matter expertise in telecommunications, security, and ICS networking, ensuring systems are designed, implemented, and maintained in alignment with operational, security, and reliability requirements. The role is responsible for providing guidance and direction on telecommunications standards, ICS processes, and enabling technologies.
This position has accountability for the design, planning, maintenance, and lifecycle management of telecommunications and network assets within Process Control Networks (PCNs) and Demilitarized Zones (DMZs), ensuring secure, resilient, and compliant industrial communications infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
Promote, support, and adhere to the ConocoPhillips HSE Management System; ensure HSE issues receive priority in all activities, embedding safe work practices in Calgary office and in the field.
Incorporate the CPC safety culture into daily activities, duties, and mentor other’s on HSE expectations.
Maintains uptodate knowledge of OT/ICS technologies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements, applying relevant advancements to ensure the safety, reliability, and operational continuity of industrial control networks.
Lead network strategy includes architecture design, defining technical standards, device specification and long-term capacity and performance planning.
Perform IOS and firmware upgrades on devices as well as Capacity planning and lifecycle/asset management for hardware in the DMZs, and Process Control Networks (PCN).
Act as Gatekeeper of the ICS and owner of the site ICS Security Policy; partner with IT Security Operations and Cybersecurity to ensure secure, compliant operations.
Provide administration and security for network routers, switches and design of firewall rules.
Backup of network devices and managing recovery processes.
Develop and manage strong relationships with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and Capital Projects.
Manage daily activities, which involve working with complex technical hardware or software problems.
Establish project and work objectives, manage tasks and timelines, and interact with multiple disciplines.
Plan and support tasks related to a full control system migration that is technically complex and within critical areas of the plant infrastructure.
Highly developed interpersonal and written communication; ownership, accountability, and priority setting across organizational lines.
Mentor and coach junior team members, fostering technical growth and knowledge sharing within the team.
Required Qualifications:
10+ years of related technology industry experience managing Cisco and Hirschmann network devices.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Engineering, or related discipline; an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience will be considered.
CCNA(Cisco Certified Network Associate)/CCNP(Cisco Certified Network Professional) certifications highly preferred
Knowledge of industrial safe work practices and standards.
Expert knowledge of networking fundamentals – switching, rouging and firewalls.
OT knowledge and experience required.
Strong knowledge of network protocols and functions (for example TCP/IP, STP, EIGRP. SNMP ect).
Strong knowledge of industrial protocols would be beneficial (for example Modbus/TCP, Ethernet/IP, Honeywell FTE, Yokogawa VNET/IP).
Preferred Qualifications:
Solid understanding of cyber security policies and practices (ISA 62443)
Knowledge / experience with radios networks including Cambium 450i, Force 300’s, and GE, MDS, AND SD4, 400MHz licensed radios.
Experience working and supporting critical systems in an ICS or Production Control environment.
OT Knowledge and experience required.
Knowledge and Experience with SolarWinds monitoring platform.
Experience running mid-size projects in a large organization
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills - experience in analyzing and understanding business/technology system architectures.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
Team-oriented, with the ability to work cross-functionally with remote IT teams.
