Summary

The Inside Sales Representative (ISR) is responsible for successfully positioning and selling company products professionally and creatively in a given geographical region. The job involves engaging and qualifying new and existing customers, positioning Illumina products in order to provide solutions to their projects and business needs, and partnering closely with other internal and field-based members of the sales team that are in pursuit of common sales goals. The ISR role is exciting and challenging as you have the opportunity to work with top academic institutions, research centers, and business organizations around the world utilizing your scientific knowledge and lab experience while selling products for the world leader in Genomics.

The position is an internal sales position and requires minimal travel time (10%).

Responsibilities

  • Develops a strong understanding of Illumina’s technology, maintains up-to-date knowledge of company products, systems and services (may include contract documentation), knowledge of the industry, as well as the competitive posture of the organization.

  • Establishes and executes on strategies to identify new markets, to obtain new customers and maintains/grows existing customer accounts in order to meet and exceed revenue goals.

    • Monitors and assesses market, product and funding trends (including new funding opportunities and recently awarded researchers), and communicates key findings pertinent to the competitive and funding landscape to the team.

    • Generates prospective customers through cold calling, multichannel, inbound and/or outbound sales activities and may qualify and follow up with sales leads.

    • Focuses on acquiring new customers and retaining and growing an existing installed base of customers.

    • Sells the organization’s products, systems and/or services primarily via telephone or electronic means to customers in assigned territory, industry, or accounts.

    • Responds to inbound requests to triage customer needs (quotes, product information, and price).

    • May be responsible for large, diverse, complex territories and/or products.

  • Supports the field sales team to ensure customers’ demands are responded to.

  • Prepares activity and forecast reports as requested.

  • Assists with workshops, conventions, seminar series and other marketing activities as required.

  • Changes to individual responsibilities may occur due to business needs and other related duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in Biology/Genetics, required; MS in Biology/Genetics, preferred

  • 2+ years of experience in a genomics/life science laboratory, sales or a related field with customer-facing experience.

  • Knowledge of genomics, and related applications to allow for a better understanding of the broad variation of customer applications to uncover sales potential. Preferred knowledge of Next Generation Sequencing and Genotyping methods.

  • Conducts presentations effectively, professionally and comfortably to customers/peers/management.

  • Highly self-motivated, independent, and successful individual who enjoys a challenging and dynamic work environment, and who approaches tasks with urgency and in a detail-oriented manner. Works autonomously and receives little instruction on day-to-day work/new assignments.

  • Team player with exceptional interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills, with a demonstrated desire to be an effective collaborator within a team selling environment. Builds productive working relationships internally and externally.

  • Highly adaptable individual, who is a quick learner and has a willingness to plan, prioritize, and manage time effectively.

  • Applies company policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues.

  • Determines a course of action based on guidelines. Modifies processes and methods as required.

  • English required, Bilingual (English and French) preferred.

The estimated base salary range for the Inside Sales Representative role based in Canada is: $62,500 – $93,700 CAD. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. No AI will be used to screen, assess, or select applicants. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
