OPPORTUNITY

You will be working within a team at the heart of a vibrant global software engineering organization.

The team is responsible for the infrastructure that increases the velocity of 100’s of engineers world-wide.
In this DevOps role, you will be part of a team responsible for ongoing support and evolution of our software development environment, including but not limited to scripts and servers as part of evolving CI/CD pipelines. You will actively participate in the design, implementation, testing, and observability of Ribbon’s next generation software management systems, leveraging cutting edge virtualization, web services and cloud computing technologies to drive down our product costs and drive up our margins. This role in particular leverages 3rd party (e.g. Jenkins, Artifactory, Kubernetes, Openshift, Jira, GIT, AWS, Elasticsearch, Prometheus, Thanos) along-side in-house developed tools to assist in the development, testing, and delivery of Ribbon products.

You can expect your time will be split between

  • Supporting global development and verification in Ribbon’s evolving CI (Continuous Integration) and CD (Continuous Delivery) environment
  • Modifying and/or enhancing observability tools for monitoring our CI/CD pipelines and critical infrastructure implementing Site Reliability Engineering methodologies
  • Linux System Administration (installation, upgrades, and troubleshooting of Linux Servers) in our global DevOps/Software Development Environment
  • This position will be Hybrid in our Ottawa office 3 days a week

Education and Qualifications

  • Graduate from Computer Science, Computer or Software Engineering, or related field
  • Basic understanding and familiarity with Linux systems, Linux commands and IP networking is essential
  • Programming experience with some or all of the following: Java, Python, C/C++, Perl, or Bash
  • Understanding of software development practices, demonstrable experience in developing code in an IDE (Eclipse/VSCode/IntelliJ) and committing to SCM tools (such as Git)
  • Strong and methodical troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce clear and comprehensive design specifications
  • Previous Co-Op and/or Intern experience is beneficial but not required
  • Familiarity with any of the following is considered an asset
  • CI/CD tools such as Jenkins
  • Observability stacks such as: Grafana,  Prometheus, Elasticsearch
  • Knowledge of virtualization technologies and systems like OpenStack, Openshift, KVM, VMware, Kubernetes and Docker
  • Knowledge of deployment technologies such as GitOps and Ansible
  • Build automation tools such as Maven and Gradle
