About Jetpack Labs
Jetpack Labs is a startup studio and product engineering team founded by experienced technical leaders who have built, scaled, and exited companies across multiple industries. We specialize in helping startups and growth-stage companies design, build, and ship products with speed and confidence. Our projects are fast-paced, technical, and often require deep problem-solving.
We are looking for a Laravel Developer with VueJS experience to join us on a contract basis. Hours can be part-time or full-time depending on fit and availability.
Role Overview
You’ll be working on modern web applications, primarily using Laravel (backend) and VueJS (frontend). This is not a “cookie-cutter” role, you will be expected to think critically, write maintainable code, and solve complex problems. You’ll be collaborating with founders and senior developers who care deeply about building products the right way.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain web applications using Laravel and VueJS.
- Write clean, testable, and scalable code.
- Work with MySQL databases and integrate with third-party services.
- Implement unit, integration, and E2E testing (Playwright, PHPUnit, or similar).
- Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback.
- Optimize application performance and scalability.
- Join regular team meetings during North American business hours to collaborate, plan, and review progress.
- Collaborate directly with technical founders and clients to deliver features quickly and reliably.
Requirements
- Strong experience with Laravel (PHP 8+) and its ecosystem.
- Solid understanding of VueJS (Vue 3 preferred) and modern JavaScript/TypeScript.
- Expertise in MySQL database design, indexing, and query optimization.
- Familiarity with Docker, GitHub Actions, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud infrastructure (AWS/Hetzner/S3/etc.).
- Strong knowledge of REST APIs, authentication (OAuth/JWT), queues, caching, and event-driven systems.
- Understanding of testing strategies: unit, feature, and E2E.
- Ability to work independently and deliver production-ready code.
- Availability to attend weekly and ad-hoc team meetings in our standard time zones (Pacific/North American business hours).
Bonus Points
- Experience with front-end testing (Playwright/Cypress).
- Exposure to AI/automation workflows or curiosity about AI-assisted development.
- Past contributions to open-source projects or strong GitHub portfolio.
- Experience with multi-tenant SaaS architecture.
What Makes You a Great Fit
At Jetpack Labs, we move quickly and expect developers to do more than just “take tickets.” The best candidates will:
- Show evidence of real coding ability (GitHub repos, projects, or code samples).
- We actually review commit history to see what you contributed and how you solve problems, not just whether the project looks polished.
- Have opinions about best practices and be able to defend them with experience.
- Be comfortable learning new stacks, debugging complex issues, and thinking like a founder.
- Care about writing maintainable, scalable code rather than hacking things together.
- Understand the balance between speed and quality in a startup environment.
- Be communicative and proactive in team discussions and planning.
Contract Details
- Contractor role (part-time or full-time hours available).
- Remote-first team, flexible working hours outside of required meeting times.
- Competitive hourly/project-based rates depending on experience.
How to Apply
Send us:
- A short intro about yourself.
- Links to code samples, GitHub repos, or projects you’ve worked on.
- We will review commit history to verify your actual contributions.
- A quick note on why you think you’d be a strong fit for Jetpack Labs.
