About the role
- The Legal Counsel is a member of the legal team. Reporting to the General Counsel, the Legal Counsel provides legal advice to internal clients, works on strategic projects, and liaises with external counsel as necessary. This position will support legal function across North America.
What you'll do
- Providing legal services to the internal business team.
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating various types of contracts, including commercial leases, customer contracts, vendor contracts, technology agreements, and other commercial arrangements.
- Advising on routine employment matters and coordinating external employment counsel where necessary.
- Assisting with corporate law matters and transactions.
- Advising on existing contractual arrangements and questions of contract interpretation.
- Managing external legal counsel.
- Developing and maintaining a thorough knowledge of UniUni’s business.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 4-6+ years of corporate and commercial experience, preferably at a major national or regional law firm, or a combination of major firm and in-house experience.
- Experience in employment law, commercial leasing and/or transportation regulatory matters an asset but not required.
- Qualified to practice law in one or more Canadian provinces.
- Strong contract negotiation and drafting skills.
- Practical, results-oriented approach combined with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work well and communicate with team members from other backgrounds and cultures.
- Ability to work independently and reliably under tight timeframes in a dynamic and varied. environment.
- Fluency in multiple languages, particularly Mandarin or French, an asset but not required.
- May be fully remote (applicant may be located anywhere in Canada). May be hybrid if applicant is located in Vancouver Canada.
