Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn't work together.
So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions - to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, offer buy now, pay later functionality, book appointments, engage buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we've embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale.
Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes - large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We're building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we are helping sellers worldwide do the same.
The Role
The Lending Capabilities Product Lead reports to the Head of Square Banking Product and Operations and develops the core capabilities that enable our lending business. These capabilities include customer onboarding, underwriting, credit servicing, liquidity, loan sales, and more. Your customers are Square Banking teams building credit products, our originating bank partners, and capital markets, treasury and accounting teams.
Square Banking provides loans, merchant cash advances, credit cards, lines of credit, hardware installment plans and other financing products to Square merchants around the world. For ten years, we have led the way in using data to extend capital to the businesses we serve. We nurture credit products from ideation to global scale. We pride ourselves on our integrity, innovation, and empathy for business operators of all sizes.
You will:

  • Lead a team of product managers building our lending application, underwriting, financial data, decisioning, servicing and loan sale capabilities.
  • Foster an environment that enables the team to build quickly while maintaining a high standard for quality. Maintain close links to Square platform teams to share best practices building back end products.
  • Work with product teams, underwriting data science, capital markets, accounting, risk and other teams to understand the needs of our lending products and how you can work ahead of them.
  • Execute the strategy to mature our capabilities under the North star of accelerating Square's lending product development velocity. Champion adoption of these common lending capabilities across Block.
  • Translate the strategy into OKRs and a tactical roadmap for your products based on the needs of future product launches, and our commitment to growth and speed to market.
  • Own key measurements (KPIs) of product performance and develop a measurement feedback loop into the roadmap to continuously improve our capabilities.

You have:

  • 12+ years of experience in platform product management and leading product teams.
  • Experience in developing credit products and capabilities at fintechs or traditional financial institutions. You understand credit decisioning and servicing requirements.
  • A track record developing and implementing key strategies that altered the trajectory of a business. You have an excellent toolkit to help teams build their execution muscle.
  • An understanding of modern technologies and architectural patterns and how they drive platform performance
  • A bias to data-driven action so you can quickly make product and prioritization decisions to improve the business.
  • Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills, able to build and maintain trust, generate excitement and buy-in for your strategies, and deliver on your promises. You can inspire people through your written and verbal communication skills in Square's document-leaning culture.
  • A strong drive to mentor and develop product managers, drawing on your experience.
