As the Manager, Business Development – Government, you will serve as a national subject‑matter expert and growth enabler responsible for supporting Wesco’s expansion across all levels of government, with a key strategic focus on Canada’s Defence segments.

This role will work coast to coast as a trusted partner to Wesco branches, business development teams, and suppliers -providing expertise, strategy, and enablement to help grow this complex and rapidly expanding market.

This is a unique opportunity for a professional with deep knowledge of federal government procurement and the defense sector, including supply arrangements, tenders, standing offers, and government buying behaviors, to help shape Wesco’s long‑term position in a critical national market.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Market Development

  • Lead the development and execution of national business development strategies for government customers, with primary emphasis on Defence segments.
  • Identify, evaluate, and pursue new business opportunities aligned to federal, provincial, municipal, and Crown‑agency procurement models.
  • Analyze market trends, government policies, procurement vehicles, and competitive positioning to strengthen Wesco’s presence and share.

Branch Enablement & Support

  • Act as a national resource to branches, supporting opportunity identification, pursuit strategy, and market entry.
  • Partner with branch teams to support tenders, RFPs, RFIs, supply arrangements, and standing offers, providing guidance on compliance, structure, and best practices.
  • Support branches in navigating Defence procurement environments, including understanding customer priorities, timelines, and buying patterns.

Government & Defence Expertise

  • Apply strong understanding of federal procurement tendencies, including PSPC, DND, and other defence‑related agencies.
  • Provide insight into government contracting frameworks, evaluation criteria, lifecycle purchasing, and long‑term contracting vehicles.
  • Serve as an internal advisor on government and defence policies impacting procurement and supplier engagement.

Relationship & Ecosystem Development

  • Establish and maintain relationships with key government stakeholders, defence partners, suppliers, and internal Wesco teams.
  • Serve as a liaison between branches, suppliers, category management, marketing, and operations to ensure coordinated market execution.
  • Support strategic partnerships, supplier alignment, and national programs relevant to Defence opportunities.

Growth & Performance Enablement

  • Develop business plans and go‑to‑market strategies that support revenue growth, market expansion, and customer satisfaction.
  • Monitor market performance, track opportunities, and identify risks and gaps, proposing solutions to strengthen Wesco’s competitive position.
  • Support internal and customer training related to government and defence procurement processes, programs, and solutions.

Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience in business development, sales, or market strategy
  • Demonstrated experience working with government procurement (federal preferred)
  • Strong understanding of tenders, supply arrangements, standing offers, and public‑sector contracting
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to analyze business, financial, and market data
  • Proven ability to influence without direct authority and work cross‑functionally
  • Comfortable operating in a fast‑paced, complex, and highly regulated environment
  • Ability to travel 50–75% across Canada

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or related field
  • Experience in or exposure to the Defence sector
  • Knowledge of Canada’s federal procurement ecosystem (e.g., PSPC, DND, Crown agencies)
  • Experience acting as a shared resource supporting multiple locations or teams
  • Knowledge of Wesco’s products, services, and distribution model

Why This Role

  • Be part of a rapidly growing national market with long‑term strategic importance
  • Shape Wesco’s approach to Defence and Marine in Canada
  • Operate as a trusted expert and advisor rather than a traditional sales role
  • Collaborate with teams coast to coast, influencing outcomes at a national level
  • Join a growing team focused on strategic, high‑impact government opportunities
