The O&M Engineer must have a background in electrical engineering (AC/DC power generation). Knowledge and understanding of computer/software programming with skills in network configuration and management is a requirement of this position, as are excellent interpersonal skills with experience in a customer/ supplier service environment. The successful candidate will drive continuous improvement initiatives to achieve overall systems efficiency that meet customer revenue expectations while minimizing

  • Create and maintain detailed technical documentation related to solar arrays, inverters, battery systems, and other components associated with the power plant(s)
  • Prepare regular reports on system performance, maintenance activities, and any incidents
  • Generate reports as they pertain to the analysis of performance data including determining root cause and performance trends
  • Collaborate with field technicians to gather accurate data for reporting purposes
  • Liaise with maintenance sub-contractors and suppliers when troubleshooting system control issues
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors to track equipment lifecycles and warranty periods
  • Create equipment specific maintenance procedures and plans
  • Train contractors and sub-contractors on equipment maintenance and operating procedures
  • Determine spare parts requirements and use our CMMS software tracking system for spare parts
  • Remote monitoring and troubleshooting; including working closely with onsite technicians to troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges.
  • Maintain computer and control systems including software updates and system testing and checking
  • Solid understanding of computer networks including configuration and management
  • Demonstrate a strong focus on equipment down time and underperformance
  • Develop contingency plans for unexpected events, such as equipment failures or extreme weather conditions
  • Manage the asset database, including equipment inventory, warranties, and maintenance schedules
  • Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the Canadian Solar Solution Code of Business Conduct
  • Support ISO 9001 activities
  • Adhere to all environmental, health and safety rules and policies
  • Stay informed about industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
  • Conduct other duties as required

Job Requirements

  • Minimum college diploma in Engineering Technology, or Engineering degree (electrical or software)
  • Minimum 8 years plus work experience in a service environment, working with control systems that include controls systems, communication systems, switch gear and power generation hardware
  • Software programming knowledge and expertise with systems such as SCADA systems specifically WinCC, network systems and security software.
  • P&C experience with HV equipment is a plus
  • Knowledge of HV equipment and operations
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, drawings, manuals, and specifications
  • Understanding of AC/DC solar equipment including HV switchyards and substations
  • Strong work ethic, positive team attitude and able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Electrical background in maintenance an asset
  • Good written and verbal communication skill
  • Travel may be required from time to time
