About Tyba

Tyba is a modeling platform for energy companies developing, financing, and operating renewable energy infrastructure. Energy companies rely on technical models daily to make crucial infrastructure decisions and operate their assets.

Our mission is to make cutting-edge models accessible to cross-functional teams so that companies can build and operate more renewable energy more profitably. We are backed by leading climate and generalist VCs and work with many of the industry's most innovative energy companies.

The role

We're looking for a People Operations Manager to own our HR operations function, and help us build the transformational people programs that will take our team development to the next level.

Day to day, we need a process-focused operations leader to own the essentials: people compliance, payroll and benefits, hiring logistics, onboarding, and our office. You’ll also play a critical role in shaping the next phase of people development, leading strategic initiatives to evolve our performance development program, onboarding program, and professional development. The person in this role will help us to design and build our people operations function from the ground up, not just inherit someone else's template.

To do that well, we want you to truly understand Tyba’s business and be a strategic partner to its leaders. If you’re mission-driven and believe in the future that Tyba is building — this role is for you. More than anything, we're looking for someone who is mid-career with grit, good judgment, and a real caring for people, who's excited to clean up processes, develop new ideas, and help us scale our business. We’re also ready and able to invest in that person’s growth, dedicating budget to learning, growth, new tools, and resources to improve how we do things.

If that sounds like you, there's a lot of room to grow this into a leadership role as we scale.

Responsibilities

  • Take care of people compliance, including filings, policies, and staying current on employment law across our footprint

  • Manage payroll and benefits, including vendor relationships and being a helpful, responsive resource when people have questions or run into issues

  • Tackle first iterations of a few learning and development projects for the org, helping people find growth paths and that make the Tyba experience special, possible projects within:

    • Build our performance process, from setting goals to running thoughtful review cycles

    • Design and build our onboarding program, including curriculum that helps new hires understand and connect with our business

  • Support hiring logistics alongside our hiring managers and external recruiters, from scheduling to offers to background checks

  • Keep our HQ office running well, including vendors, supplies, and the everyday details that make coming into work pleasant

  • Look at our existing people processes with fresh eyes, and fix what isn't serving the team well anymore

Skills and experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in HR operations, ideally at high-growth startups

  • A track record of building new processes from scratch, not just running what already exists

  • Working knowledge of payroll, benefits, and employment compliance

  • Someone happy to handle the details personally while also thinking ahead to what we'll need next

  • Curiosity about our business, and a willingness to learn what makes it tick

  • Based in the San Francisco Bay Area and willing to be in Oakland office for 3-4 days per week minimum

  • Bonus: Experience designing or running learning and development programs, curriculum, or professional growth frameworks

Compensation and benefits:

  • Salary: $160-190K, depending on experience and qualifications.

  • Benefits: Parental leave, medical benefits, and unlimited PTO.

  • Equity Options: Opportunity to own a stake in the company through an employee stock option plan.
