THE ROLE

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building, problem-solving, and taking ownership of People processes. As a People and Culture Generalist, you will play a critical role in optimizing HR programs, systems, and workflows to enhance efficiency and improve the employee experience. This is a high-impact, hands-on role where you will have the opportunity to drive HR projects from start to finish, implement best practices, and contribute to a thriving company culture. If you are an independent thinker who thrives in a fast-moving environment, this role is for you.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Own and streamline People Operations - Lead and refine HR processes and systems, continuously improving efficiency and automation, with support and guidance when needed.
  • Work with the People and Talent Manager to deliver seamless, engaging onboarding experiences, optimizing training schedules for new hires while bringing fresh ideas to improve the process.
  • Optimize HR systems and data – Manage and enhance our HRIS (HiBob), ensuring accurate data and actionable insights for leadership.
  • Champion performance management – Drive performance cycles, create intuitive workflows, and support managers in fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Ensure HR compliance and best practices – Maintain compliance with employment regulations while keeping policies aligned with modern HR trends.
  • Manage employee relations and engagement – Act as a trusted resource for employees, addressing concerns proactively and fostering a culture of feedback.
  • Drive learning and development – Identify training opportunities and spearhead initiatives to elevate employee skills and knowledge.
  • Support culture and engagement initiatives – Partner with leadership to create impactful team-building events and programs.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Self-driven and resourceful – You don’t wait for direction; you anticipate needs and take action.
  • HR Expertise – 3 - 5 years of hands-on HR experience in a fast-growth startup or scale-up environment.
  • Process-driven with a bias for action – You thrive on efficiency and are constantly looking for ways to automate and optimize.
  • Confident problem-solver – You tackle challenges head-on and bring solutions, not just problems.
  • Tech-savvy and data-driven – You’re comfortable working with HRIS systems (HiBob is a plus) and leveraging data to inform decisions.
  • Excellent communicator – You build relationships easily and can effectively communicate with employees at all levels.
  • Adaptable and agile – You embrace change, pivot quickly, and remain steady in an evolving environment.

BONUS POINTS IF YOU HAVE

  • Experience managing HR across multiple locations (Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong)
  • Global and/or Canadian Payroll experience
  • Background in HR policy development and compliance
  • Passion for the crypto, fintech, or tech startup space

What you need to know about the Calgary Tech Scene

Employees can spend up to one-third of their life at work, so choosing the right company is crucial, not just for the job itself but for the company culture as well. While startups often offer dynamic culture and growth opportunities, large corporations provide benefits like career development and networking, especially appealing to recent graduates. Fortunately, Calgary stands out as a hub for both, recognized as one of Startup Genome's Top 100 Emerging Ecosystems, while also playing host to a number of multinational enterprises. In Calgary, job seekers can find a wide range of opportunities.
