CF Industries is currently seeking a Process Safety Engineer to join our Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Department, located at our Medicine Hat Complex. Reporting to the Supervisor, Environmental & PSM, the Process Safety Engineer plays an essential role in ensuring that all potential process safety hazards are identified, evaluated, and controlled.
You will be the champion for all process safety initiatives at the Medicine Hat Complex as well as ensuring compliance with relevant government and company EHS policies and guidelines.

What you’ll do:

Be responsible for creating, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive process safety programs, policies and processes that meet or exceed corporate standards and regulatory requirements.

Develop a thorough, practical knowledge of regulatory and corporate EHS requirements and be able to effectively transfer that knowledge to CF’s team members. Identify and help interpret current and potential EHS regulatory or corporate requirements that will affect the facility.

Ensure relevant process safety training is provided to facility personnel so that process safety responsibilities are communicated and understood.

Ensure that effective cyclical process hazard analysis studies are completed for the affected areas of the facility in accordance with regulatory and corporate requirements. Utilize engineering, operational and process safety knowledge to validate those scenarios/outcomes are representative and realistic.

In conjunction with the Engineering Department, facilitate the effective implementation of Management of Change (MOC) processes for changes at the facility.

Be able to explain identified scenarios and process safety risks effectively to technical and non-technical personnel.

Identify and understand critical layers of protection (such as PSVs and critical instruments) and conduct risk assessment(s) and recommendations if the layer(s) will be impaired.

Utilize engineering, operational and process safety knowledge to provide cost effective option(s) to affected departments to achieve the appropriate level of process safety risk reduction.

Support and facilitate EHS initiatives such as audits, drills, exercises, etc. Provide additional EHS support when requested for turnarounds, outages, etc.
Required Skills
-
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a related field of Engineering, as well as eligibility for registration with APEGA.

Knowledge of Process Safety.

Experience in an industrial plant environment/chemical manufacturing would be considered an asset.

This is a temporary, full-time position for approximately 12 months. This position will remain open until March 24, 2025.
