Who we areAbout Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

The Product Design team is composed of several teams that work together to help define, create, and deliver all user-facing aspects of the Stripe brand and product. Product Designers are strategic partners to Engineering and Product Management within a dedicated product area.

The Extensibility team is expanding ways developers can integrate directly into Stripe’s platform, providing their experiences where customers need them most. The extensibility platform allows developers to add their UI directly to Stripe pages and workflows to add new functionality that helps merchants get more out of Stripe and customize it for their own needs. We’re also responsible for building the developer tools that power extensibility, including publishing their code, versioning, and more.

What you’ll do

Areas you could work on:

  • Our platform-wide extensibility strategy, which allows developers to build on top of Stripe to extend our functionality in new ways—this includes areas such as UI Extensibility, Scripts, and our Workflow platform
  • Stripe Apps, our app platform that allows developers extend directly into the dashboard and other surfaces, such as embedded apps and more
  • Knitting our new set of developer experiences into a cohesive platform that helps developers make the most of Stripe’s tools and APIs
  • The future of developer tools at Stripe, including Workbench, improvements to test mode, API upgrades, and new tools we haven’t even thought of yet
Responsibilities
  • Design industry-leading developer tools that push the boundaries beyond what’s already on the market
  • Craft experiences that allow third-parties to extend directly into our dashboard, unlocking new ways of working on Stripe
  • Make it easier for developers to build and test their integrations, as well as discover new Stripe products
  • Turn ambiguous problems that our users are facing into concrete products, from proposal, to kick-off, vision, building, and launch—both for merchants and developers building on top of Stripe
  • Shape the developer experience + extensibility roadmap by prototyping and pitching new ideas we haven’t even thought of yet, and gaining cross-functional buy-in
  • Work closely with our partner teams, including Apps, Docs, Connect, and more, to create an end-to-end developer experience that feels coherent
  • Advocate for extensibility internally, ensuring teams building into the dashboard understand the power it can unlock for our users
  • Focus on what you do best—whether that’s sketches, wireframes, prototypes, designs, or code—you’ll have the opportunity to sharpen the skills you’re looking to develop
  • Work in a highly collaborative fashion with the design, product, and project teams
  • Partner closely with our user research team and support ongoing research projects
  • Participate in design reviews and share your work regularly with design and company leadership
Who you are

We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements
  • Has 5+ years relevant design experience at a tech, product-driven company
  • Has experience working on developer tools, working with developers—or even writing code yourself. It’s crucial you are comfortable around these tools and confident understanding how they influence what can be built.
  • Has an understanding of developers, their needs, and an eagerness to learn about how we can help them integrate with Stripe
  • Have a deep curiosity (or excitement) about the developer space, and aren’t afraid to get your hands dirty in some code
  • Experience supporting large projects (6+ months in length) including defining the roadmap for complex projects spanning multiple teams and functions
Preferred qualifications
  • Has worked on app platforms/marketplaces in the past, and can dig into the nuances of different extensibility types that developers can use to integrate with a platform (e.g allowing developers to embed directly within a platform’s pages)
  • Ability to reduce complex problems down to the right balance of flexibility, power, and ease of use, especially when explaining complicated developer experiences to non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to confidently craft and advocate for new design patterns, interaction models, and think beyond the current design system
  • Experience working horizontally across a company to influence change and advocate for your ideas/product/space
  • Understanding of the developer tooling landscape and what tools developers are using today—bonus points if you’ve used some of these tools yourself
  • Is skilled in explaining your work, process, and decisions to cross-functional stakeholders and crave feedback to help you produce your best work
  • Comfortable presenting work to senior stakeholders regularly
  • Excitement/previous experience about using AI tools as a part of your process, particularly for prototyping your ideas rapidly
  • Loves working with other designers to help them learn and grow—and have them help you learn and grow
  • Is uncompromisingly service-minded towards our users and your colleagues, but able to set and achieve priorities that find the perfect balance between benefiting the project, the Design team, and all of Stripe

What you need to know about the Calgary Tech Scene

Employees can spend up to one-third of their life at work, so choosing the right company is crucial, not just for the job itself but for the company culture as well. While startups often offer dynamic culture and growth opportunities, large corporations provide benefits like career development and networking, especially appealing to recent graduates. Fortunately, Calgary stands out as a hub for both, recognized as one of Startup Genome's Top 100 Emerging Ecosystems, while also playing host to a number of multinational enterprises. In Calgary, job seekers can find a wide range of opportunities.
