A Technical Specialist (TS) is recognized as a technical leader in a specific area of expertise.  This position is accountable for technical delivery for high complexity customer project orders, ensuring it is completed on time and within budget. This includes serving as the technical specialist engineer during planning, executing, controlling and closing of customer projects.

The successful candidate in this position will confirm customer requirements, which includes software system development requirements, which includes producing requirements and design documents, conducting specialized software development and configuration, and troubleshooting related problems. The candidate must be proficient in the area of specialization and capable of mentoring other team members. 

Responsibilities may include:

  • Lead and perform requirements gathering including conducting workshops.

  • Write requirement documents for general SCADA and expertise areas.

  • Supervise other staff in requirement gathering.

  • Supervise others in application development related to the expertise area and ensure that the corporate standards are met.

  • Review and approve proposed solutions related to the specialist areas.

  • Provide guidance on application development.

  • Provide estimate on developing an application with the specification.

  • Lead code review for developed applications.

  • Provide guidance on database migration related to the specialist areas.

  • Provide training to customer or co-workers in the specialist areas.

  • Maintain product and industrial knowledge related to the specialist areas.

  • Troubleshoot problems using various tools.

  • Recommend on standard procedures and best practices related to the specialist areas.

  • Develop tools to improve the migration, installation and testing processes.

  • Work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Provide mentorship, technical guidance and training to other members in the team.

  • Recommend improvement process.

  • Create tools to improve the installation and configurations of the product.

  • Travel to custom site, if required.

Day to day activities:

  • Requirement gatherings and produce requirement documents.

  • Troubleshoot issues.

  • Supervise others in application development related to the expertise area.

  • Review and approve proposed solutions.

  • Provide application development estimate.

  • Lead code review for developed applications.

  • Provide guidance on database migration related to the specialist areas.

  • Develop tools to improve the migration, installation and testing processes.

  • Recommend improvement process.

  • Create tools to improve the installation and configurations of the product.

Qualifications

Required Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Computer Science and 5+ years of industry experience.

  • Software Engineer responsible for development of industrial automation, information and facilities monitoring solutions involving the following software: Required (Significant Experience with One of the following): Enterprise SCADA, OASyS DNA, Vijeo/Citect SCADA, Ampla MES, ClearSCADA, WonderWare SCADA, WonderWare Historian, Other significant experience with another SCADA and/or MES software package

Desired Experience:

  • Microsoft SQL Server

  • SQL

  • C#

  • Microsoft reporting services

Other programming languages and web interface software development experience is desired but not required.

Successful candidate should be able develop, install and commission custom systems (hardware and software).

Successful candidates will be expected to handle high pressure situations on customer sites. Candidate should be able to think on their feet and offer creative solutions to unexpected site challenges. Candidate should be able to handle interactions with both Government and Private Sector customers.

Position involves domestic and international travel. Travel requirement is 20 - 50%
