Job overview

At Evans Hunt, our mission is to create powerful, positive experiences that combine strategy, creative, and technology. As a Quality Assurance Specialist, you will work with different project teams to test our work and ensure it meets its requirements for functionality, responsiveness, and accessibility.

Who we are looking for

Your professional or academic experience has given you the ability to work as a quality assurance specialist with empathy and enthusiasm to support meaningful digital experiences. You believe in a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to projects and that diverse perspectives lead to stronger work.

If the person below sounds like you, you should definitely apply.

  • You love testing websites. You have performed functional website testing to ensure projects meet their requirements and work across different physical devices, browsers and operating systems, with familiarity for WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standards.
  • You recognize patterns. You will be testing a myriad of web projects at any given time, all different but often sharing similar components and functionality, and will recognize common areas where issues can arise.
  • You have an eye for detail. You will create new test plans and enhance existing ones, identify things to test for that others may have overlooked.
  • You're enthusiastic to learn new tools. You have a growing knowledge of different web testing tools that can help such as the browser console, Browserstack, Axe, Postman, Playwright, Lighthouse and Pagespeed Insights and are keen to take advantage of the tools out there.
  • You're eager. You're excited for the chance to join new projects and ready to pitch in to help the team during the development process through to launch.

A day in the life

Working at an agency, you'll have the opportunity to work with various clients across a diverse range of industries simultaneously. One day you might be testing that an animation for a ski destination homepage works on iOS. Another day you might be walking through a primary user flow on an e-commerce website ensuring keyboard navigation works. No day is the same.

That said, there are a few activities that will likely take up most of your time. These include:

  • Running visual cross browser and cross device testing and WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility testing
  • Performing exploratory testing — our projects often lack fixed test scripts and need creative testing to identify issues
  • Identifying and logging all issues, working with the development team to ensure those issues are resolved
  • Collaborating with the project management team to ensure projects are being tested within the project timeline

What you need to know about the Calgary Tech Scene

Employees can spend up to one-third of their life at work, so choosing the right company is crucial, not just for the job itself but for the company culture as well. While startups often offer dynamic culture and growth opportunities, large corporations provide benefits like career development and networking, especially appealing to recent graduates. Fortunately, Calgary stands out as a hub for both, recognized as one of Startup Genome's Top 100 Emerging Ecosystems, while also playing host to a number of multinational enterprises. In Calgary, job seekers can find a wide range of opportunities.
