About this opportunity:

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Reservoir Forecasting, the Reservoir Engineer-in-Training supports forecasting and optimization work across Cenovus’s thermal assets, including Foster Creek, Christina Lake, Lloyd, and Sunrise. Your primary responsibility is to generate robust production forecasts with appropriate uncertainty ranges, impacting critical inputs into the business plan, budgeting cycle, capital funding, and redevelopment programs.

This role offers broad exposure to both forecasting and reservoir optimization. Approximately 25% of your time will focus on ResOpt support for a group of producing pads, working closely with geoscientists and production engineers to diagnose performance, identify opportunities, and improve recovery. You’ll also contribute to the development and improvement of analytical tools, workflows, and best practices that increase accuracy, efficiency, and the overall value delivered by the Forecasting Team.

What you’ll do:

  • Conduct pad reviews by analyzing long‑term performance trends, comparing results to forecasts, evaluating recovery over time, and identifying opportunities to improve conformance, reduce SOR, or increase production.

  • Develop and history match models to forecast performance for producing pads, supporting technical evaluations and identifying value‑add optimization opportunities.

  • Prepare well‑level forecasts and economic assessments for redrill and redevelopment opportunities on your assigned pads.

  • Collaborate with Production Engineering, Geoscience, and Reservoir Development teams to share insights, troubleshoot, and ensure strong multidisciplinary alignment.

  • Support improvements to forecasting tools, workflows, and best practices, helping enhance efficiency and technical consistency across the team.

  • Manage workload and priorities effectively to deliver high‑quality results aligned with asset needs and organizational value.

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada.

  • Registered Engineer-in-Training with APEGA.

  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, with Petroleum Engineering discipline preferred.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience post-graduation in thermal SAGD and reservoir engineering. Exposure to production engineering would be an asset.

  • Familiarity with forecasting or simulation workflows would be an asset.

We acknowledge the value of transferrable skills and may consider equivalent combinations of experience and education should you not meet a specific requirement.

Note: The application deadline for this position is 11:59 PM MT February 20th, 2026.
