THE ROLE:
 

The Senior Advisor, Contractor Safety and Assurance, reports directly to the Manager of Contractor Safety and Systems and is an active member of the Extended Safety Leadership Team (XLT).
This position is pivotal in ensuring the safety and compliance of contractors within the organization. The Senior Advisor will develop and implement contractor safety strategies, drive best practices, act as a technical authority for Contractor Safety and Management System Assurance within Petronas Canada.

HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE:

  • Contractor Safety Management (CSM):
    • Implement and manage the contractor safety management program
    • Ensure contractor adherence to Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) standards
    • Execute workshops on shared learning with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Conduct risk assessments, ensuring risk mitigation strategies are in place
    • Monitor and report on contractor safety performance and compliance
    • Support and lead incident investigations and root cause analysis related to contractor safety issues
    • Collaborate with field leaders and contractors to foster a culture of safety
    • Develop and oversee the contractor safety training program, ensuring contractors meet required competencies
    • Design and execute CSM assurance and verification activities
  • HSS Management System Assurance:
    • Develop and execute an assurance framework that assesses HSS management system and Mandatory Control Framework (MCF) compliance
    • Coordinate HSS assurance reviews, field verifications, and inspections
    • Conduct competency validations and verifications for both contractor and internal teams
    • Monitor effectiveness of assurance and assurance process and simplify management system
  • Other Key Accountabilities:
    • Liaise with stakeholders across the organization and with external auditors
    • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with key business units
    • Champion continuous improvement in contractor safety management and assurance practices
    • Visualize and track safety and system assurance performance through smart tools like Power BI dashboards

WHAT YOU BRING:

  • Relevant certifications or a diploma in Health and Safety, or equivalent
  • Professional qualification in safety and risk management is preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in health and safety, particularly in contractor safety management and HSS assurance within high-risk environments
  • Proven experience managing contractor safety programs and conducting HSS assurance audits and inspections
  • Strong project management skills and ability to handle multiple safety initiatives concurrently
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills for communication and training delivery
  • Strong interpersonal skills, capable of building relationships at all levels of the organization
  • Experience with data visualization tools and audit tracking systems like Power BI is an asset
