Senior AI/ML Engineer

At Robots & Pencils, we build meaningful, scalable digital products by blending strategy, design, and engineering. We are seeking a Level 4 AI/ML Engineer to support a long-term enterprise partnership as part of a multi-year, dedicated product and delivery engagement.

This role is embedded within a complex, large-scale digital transformation focused on modernizing mobile and backend platforms that support field operations, workforce management, compliance, and enterprise visibility. You will work closely with cross-functional partners across product, engineering, design, data, and leadership to deliver AI-enabled capabilities that improve operational insight, decision-making, and system efficiency.

This is a hands-on, delivery-driven role requiring strong technical execution, sound judgment, and comfort operating in an evolving enterprise environment. Success in this role means balancing near-term delivery with long-term platform thinking, while contributing to high-quality, maintainable solutions.

What You’ll Do

AI & Machine Learning Delivery

· Design, build, and iterate on AI/ML solutions that support enterprise workflows and operational intelligence

· Implement and optimize RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) patterns and prompt engineering strategies

· Work with open-source LLMs and emerging AI tooling to deliver practical, production-ready solutions

· Evaluate and apply AI coding tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude, Copilot) to improve development efficiency and quality

Platform & System Integration

· Collaborate with mobile and backend teams to integrate AI capabilities into iOS, Android, and backend services

· Contribute to AI-enabled initiatives across geolocation, compliance, automation, and workforce-related workflows

· Support backend services built with .NET, Node.js, Python, and TypeScript, integrating with SQL Server and Oracle databases

· Ensure AI solutions align with enterprise security, scalability, and maintainability requirements

Delivery & Collaboration

· Partner closely with product managers, designers, engineers, and stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions

· Operate effectively across multiple workstreams with shifting priorities

· Contribute to iterative delivery with a strong focus on quality, reliability, and outcomes

· Communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders, building trust through execution

Required Skills & Experience

· Senior-level experience delivering AI/ML solutions in production environments

· Hands-on experience with RAG implementations and prompt engineering

· Experience working with open-source LLMs and modern AI development practices

· Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Claude, or Copilot

· Strong backend engineering experience using Python and/or TypeScript, with exposure to .NET or Node.js

· Experience integrating AI capabilities into complex, enterprise-scale systems

· Comfortable working within modern delivery toolchains (Azure DevOps, GitHub, Jira, Confluence)

· Strong understanding of scalable system design and data-driven application development

Nice to Have

· Exposure to mobile platforms (iOS with Swift, Android with Kotlin)

· Experience with geolocation, compliance, or workflow automation systems

· Familiarity with Azure OpenAI or other managed AI services

· Experience working in consulting or long-term client-embedded delivery models
