Senior Android Engineer - Core Surfaces

The Role
We're on a mission to elevate our key customer flows and experiences, establishing Cash App as a next-generation social bank. We're entering a pivotal phase of redesigning how customers experience and move money, and this role will be instrumental in shaping that future.
This role is for a Senior Android Engineer for Core Surfaces team, which includes primarily Money, Search, Activity, and Profile/Settings. We're looking for someone that is customer-centric, able to rapidly prototype new ideas, enjoys digging into UX/UI (including motion, animations), and brings a high level of ownership and product-mindedness to the team. The ideal candidate has a deep sense of quality and craft, often refining the product to deliver delightful, polished experiences to our customers.
You Will

• Independently own and drive new initiatives from concept to prototypes, while assessing feasibility.
• Collaborate closely with design and product teams to refine ideas into functional experiences, while balancing customer impact with technical feasibility.
• Bring a high degree of autonomy, ownership, and initiative.
• Deliver features to tens of millions of customers, while maintaining customer trust as a top priority
• Represent the team in architectural discussions and stakeholder conversations, serving as a bridge between our team and the broader mobile organization.
• Foster a culture of engineering excellence and mentor engineers of all experience levels.
• Build end-to-end features of the app: networking, persistence, business logic, and UI
• Write durable, well-tested code that reflects a high bar for product quality
• Invent thoughtful Android tech and open source it
• Partner with iOS and backend developers on delivering remarkable solutions
• Have a meaningful impact on the future of the Cash App product

You Have

• Experience shipping high-quality Android apps.
• Deep experience with Compose UI; huge plus if you enjoy building new UI patterns in code.
• Typically 10+ years of experience creating readable, well-crafted, and maintainable code
• Experience in early-stage product development is a plus, ideally having worked in both a startup and a large company to bridge both worlds.
• Experience voicing customer feedback into product solutions (engineering makes substantive contributions to product definition)
• Strong ability to work cross-functionally, especially with design, to bring innovative ideas to life.
• A commitment to continuous improvement (yourself, your teammates, your software)

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate's starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
