Senior Art Director – Digital Design

Passport Brand Design is seeking an exceptional Senior Art Director with a passion for digital design and customer experience. We're looking for a creative leader who not only produces visually stunning, strategically grounded work, but who also thrives in client-facing environments — building trust, presenting ideas with confidence, and turning strategic briefs into creative solutions that resonate.

You are a master of your craft in Figma, a compelling storyteller in the room, and someone who understands how to bring clients on the journey from concept to execution. Your work will directly shape how customers interact with our clients' brands across digital touchpoints — from paid media and social content to personalised digital experiences.

Please note: the successful candidate will work on a large client in the nicotine category.

What You'll Do

  • Lead and present creative concepts to clients with clarity and conviction — articulating design rationale, strategic thinking, and how your creative approach meets their business objectives.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted creative partner who listens, interprets briefs insightfully, and proactively brings fresh ideas to the table.
  • Adapt campaign toolkits — including key visuals and hero messaging — into a range of digital assets across paid media, social, and personalised digital experiences, ensuring everything stays on-brand and purposeful.
  • Use Figma to develop high-fidelity mockups, prototypes, and design systems that communicate ideas clearly to both clients and internal teams.
  • Collaborate closely with copywriters, strategists, and account teams to craft cohesive, effective digital experiences that feel personal and impactful.
  • Champion brand consistency, understanding core brand principles and applying them across every creative output.
  • Articulate CX best practices to clients and colleagues alike — translating complex design thinking into accessible, compelling narratives.
  • Mentor and guide junior creatives, fostering a culture of craft, curiosity, and client-centricity.

Who You Are

  • confident, engaging presenter who can hold a room — whether you're walking clients through a concept, defending a creative decision, or inspiring a team.
  • strategic creative who connects insights and brand thinking to produce design solutions that are as smart as they are beautiful.
  • An empathetic collaborator who genuinely listens to clients and colleagues, building trust through thoughtful communication and consistent delivery.
  • resilient and adaptable thinker, comfortable navigating ambiguity and championing bold ideas with the evidence to back them up.

What You'll Need

  • 6+ years of experience in an advertising agency or design studio, with a portfolio that demonstrates strong digital design and CX thinking across multiple touchpoints.
  • A proven track record of presenting creative work directly to clients, with the ability to build relationships and earn confidence at senior stakeholder level.
  • An outstanding portfolio showcasing exceptional conceptual thinking and visual execution across digital campaigns, paid media, and personalised digital experiences.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Figma — comfortable building design systems, creating interactive prototypes, and collaborating efficiently within the tool.
  • Strong understanding of visual design principles — typography, colour, composition, layout — applied to digital, user-centric contexts.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a natural ability to tell the story behind your creative decisions.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment while maintaining the highest creative standards.

What you need to know about the Calgary Tech Scene

Employees can spend up to one-third of their life at work, so choosing the right company is crucial, not just for the job itself but for the company culture as well. While startups often offer dynamic culture and growth opportunities, large corporations provide benefits like career development and networking, especially appealing to recent graduates. Fortunately, Calgary stands out as a hub for both, recognized as one of Startup Genome's Top 100 Emerging Ecosystems, while also playing host to a number of multinational enterprises. In Calgary, job seekers can find a wide range of opportunities.
